You are mixing up 2 separate issues regarding Ward's inactivity.

HBO told both Roc and Loeffler that they wouldn't be interested in paying for a fight between GGG and Ward back in 2013 because GGG was still virtually unknown and Ward had done been forgotten by most casual fans.

Neither had a big enough fan base to fund the fight so BOTH needed to get busy and build up their profiles to make it worth their while. That was what Sanchez was talking about when he said Ward needed to get active.

What he is saying now is that Ward's inactivity won't affect his performance against Barrera, which is a different issue entirely.

    THINK before you post!

While I feel that GGG didn't duck Ward per se, I do feel that he had no real intentions of fighting him. He had to know Ward would not accept 164. He's not Floyd Mayweather to be making a demand like that.
Good post. All true. I don't think at the time with the Lemieux PPV in the works and a PPV/lineal MW mandatory title fight on deck that they had any real interest in Ward at that time. The "offer" at 164 was basically a big FU to Ward for talking ***** and not putting in the work to build up the fight. Ward's emailed counter offer of 168 at 50/50 just after GGG had signed on for the Lemieux PPV fight seemed equally disingenuous. Especially considering the timeline GGG would've been locked into and the fact that Ward's only fight in the previous 18 months had been Paul Smith in front of 300k on BET. As Loeffler says in the article I linked to, it was a terrible offer and it would've been immensely ****** for GGG to accept it. That obvious fact seems to have been overlooked by many, including Ward and Roc Nation who immediately pointed to it as a sign GGG doesn't want it. That said, GGG's team clearly said that they could take care of biz at MW and if Ward managed to get back in the ring in 2016 the fight could happen early 2017.

What has Ward done to build up a fight with GGG the last 2 years? Golovkin's knocking out 3 or 4 guys a year and filling up arenas on both coasts. What's Ward done again? Promoting and building a fight is a working partnership - so who's done all the work here? Yet Ward wants an even split on the money and a 10lb weight advantage by asking GGG to come all the way up to SMW, a weight Ward struggles to get to? I'd say an even split on money and weight is more than generous from GGG.

Isn't that exactly what I just said?

Sanchez was talking about Ward's inactivity affecting his drawing power last year.

Now he's talking about his performance in the ring against Barrera.

Jeez, it's not really that difficult to understand.

Lol so what did Monroe do to build up a fight with 3G? Come on ward name alone still being ranked on most sites p4p list even with inactivity was enough compared to what 3G was fighting y'all trying make it seem like it was going be some world wide event facts are ward with the inactivity would be better then everyone 3G fought so far combined or talked about fighting other then floyd

This is why I regard the 50/50 money and weight statement from GGG and Loeffler as a message to Ward and Roc that if the fight ever happens Golovkin will expect more than 50% of the purse for conceding so much weight and doing more than Ward to build the fight.

I think it was more of a bargaining gambit than a hard and fast demand.
