I understand that what a lot of Oscar De La Hoya is saying is true. However, at the same time there have been many fighters of all persuasions with crowd pleasing and fan friendly styles who are quality, upstanding citizens in their communities with no criminal past that have been vilified, reviled and hated by large segments of the boxing public for non other reason than their skin tone.

All I know is there are very few sports where the athlete can become his own boss. Meaning have the opportunity to call their own shots and create their own businesses or in this case boxing promotions. Look at what Money May and Oscar did. They made more money than any else in the sport and started there own companies. Both are **********. What sport allows an athlete one athlete to make over 650 million (Oscar) and the other to make over a billion (Money May). None it doesn't happen.

Boxing is about self promotion and entertainment. If you thrive you can become extremely wealthy. But again not every fan will love or like you even if you are champion and trying to transcend the sport.
Mayweather would've never gotten the money he did without the support of a Black team and advisor. Arum wouldn't get behind him when he was at TR, especially not to the level he did Oscar, nor did HBO make him their marquee until he was already generating hundreds of millions of dollars for them. Compare that to the treatment of Golokvin who has yet to really sale anything. Kovlev gets a boost and he is always piggybacking off of someone elses fan base.

Arum saw what he lost with Floyd and is now showing love to Crawford, but he wouldn't even have gotten the support without jumping a weightclass over night to beat the columbian guy.

Do you really think it's his style that draws fan interests? Or was it more his aura of invincibility that draws in a mix of fans. Those who can't stand him and want to witness him lose, and those who tune in to see who can beat him or if he can continue his undefeated streak.

Sure Floyd had his share of fans who were true fans of his and tuned in to admire his in ring skills but those fans were in the minority and made up a small percentage of ppv buys.

People can crap on Floyds style all they want. It takes skill to accomplish the things he's done. If it was simple, every fighter would retire undefeated after winning multiple titles in different divisions.
To be fair, plenty others would have fared better if they had fought an entirely defensive style that relied purely on your opponent being the main aggressor like Floyd did.

lol Because people wanted to see him lose. That's why whenever he fought an opponent that people thought was good enough to beat him, his fights drew huge. When he fought scrubs like Victor "The Bum" Ortiz, Andre Berto, and Robert Guerrero, his fights were pretty much flops. In his own words, he made a career off being the villain.

Floyd beat woman was disrespectful went to Prison

No racism with little Floyd Mayweather as the disrespectful poorly raised ill mannered obnoxious little runt made millions in boxing and retired a rich man. Funny how the coloreds shout racism on every occasion but yet burn down our American inner cities and commit most of all the crimes in America. Floyd did well for an uneducated street thug with no respect for anyone and numerous assaults on woman and others in society. Racism seems more a joke card to pull when things do not go a colored kids way these days. Floyd seems like a racist himself in his behavior to others. Society pays scant attention to kids like Mayweather who are millionaires yet morally and emotionally bankrupt and empty of character and devoid of feelings towards others. sad. But that is the world we have to live in.

I agree with both guys a lil bit.

There is certainly some racism + racial angles used to hype matchups in boxing. I mean this is a sport where Holmes vs Cooney was a huge fight largely off of the black champion vs white contender angle & PR vs Mexico stuff is talked about all time. There is for sure more importance put on race + nationality in boxing than possibly any sport as popular or more popular by the fans from what I see in forums & from the way I hear people talking about boxing.

Than again there is a logical argument to make that if you don't got a fan friendly style fans just won't like you as much as someone with a fan friendly style. That seems obvious & is a point ignored by Mayweather in his side of the argument.
