Roy has the best win between the two and the best accomplishment by winning a HW title. The names are probably really close besides that. Mayweather has longevity.

    It's at least close.

I admit I'm probably not going to be able to put my bias aside since Roy is the fighter that made me a boxing fan, but I've never seen anyone like him. Not even Mayweather ever made me think a fighter was unbeatable the way Roy Jones Jr. did for a decade.

How can you look at the numbers and honestly say that?
Some of those stats are just irrelevant, especially with regards to world "champions" beaten but I would actually, at this stage, rank Mayweather higher. I certainly have him higher in my updated ATG list, which I'm still working on. Having said that, there isn't much between the two.

Jones has the exceptional achievement of winning a title at hw, where he was drastically outweighed and the achievement of beating both Hopkins and Toney, even if neither man was quite at his best.

Of course, Mayweather has the Pacquiao win, even if he wasn't at his best and a better and deeper range of wins. Then again, it's not all about numbers or opponents or rankings and what often elevates Jones so high is the fact, that in his prime, a period of 5-6 years, he genuinely seemed indestructible and unbeatable. His reflexes, his athleticism and his power all masked a lack of boxing basics but he was so naturally gifted, that didn't matter.

Flash can hide a lot of basic flaws. That was Jones. Sadly, you can probably make a healthy list of guys Jones never faced who he should have.

[QUOTE=Reloaded;16329596]Everybody fights second rate opponents lol , from the Ray Robinsons fighting around 100 bums to GGG not fighting a single elite fighter thus far , everybody fights soft touches .

Break a resume down to weight and timing of each fight in regard to the immediate prior form of the opponent going in , Floyds resume is outstanding .

Roys Jones was a beast for a period of time and then lost it all , Floyd was also a beast for a period of time and he adapted to the bigger divisions and fought the top guys and kept winning .[/QUOTE

Roy was a beast for as many fights as Floyd had..then he hit the wall after coming down from HW to 175 again... And he was more exciting...not as good a technical boxer but much more fun to watch then the last 10 years of Floyds career... But now we see what's happening to Roy and it's sad.... We won't ever see that happen to Floyd unless he somehow goes through all that money.

As good as is subjective , Mosley Oscar Manny were all at the same level Floyd was at for those fights , it seems Floyd is always prime and everyone else is shot for me those 3 are all better fighters than Toney , Hopkins is great because of his longevity which also has to do with the weight class , the lighter weight classes are always tougher competition because the over all boxing quality and power to weight ratio of the little guys is better .

The idea of better is in the eye of the beholder , the thread is about accomplishments and that can be proven because its records written in history books , Floyd accomplished way more than Roy Jones did .

Floyd achieved more than Roy in his bracketed divisions, but in reality Roy is way better so who really gives a ****.

It was the same 20lbs that Canelo out weighed Floyd , now is 175 Canelo a better fighter than Ruiz , its all about perspective because the handicap is exactly the same , give 20lbs to Ruiz or 20lbs to Canelo , which is the tougher fight .

come on man, floyd was a 2x 154lb champion yet he fought a fellow division titlist at a catchweight.

that is a false equivalency at its finest.

You really are a ****** old man. 226-193. Is that 20 pounds? Also fighting a 175 pound man is not the same as one at 225.
