Here is another robbery against Roniel Iglesias who to me is head and shoulders above everybody else in the amateurs. He dismantles guys from the outside, from the inside, at any range really. Here he lost in the WSB against a Kazahstani guy that he dominated
2016 Rio Olympics Boxers to lookout for?

Yeah I've heard about Cruz, he's younger too if I'm not mistaken. Hope he gets a shot in the pro ranks.Roebeisi Ramirez has was taken off the team sometime in the spring this year due to discipline issue. His substitute Andy Cruz won the Pan-Am games and then got robbed against a kid from Estonia during the quarterfinals at the Worlds a couple of months ago. Robeisi is not coming back and at the moment Andy Cruz is the better boxer if not the more exciting one.Comment

I would hope Ramirez beats out Andy Cruz, then qualifies for the Olympics, medals and then goes pro. He'll barely be 22 years old later this month, it's crazy somebody has to try and get him. I think he'll make a good pro. Time is on his side to learn professional boxing as well.Ramireze might have the best chance to turn pro because he is no longer on the national team so he is not living too well. If he finds a way to leave the country he'll turn pro probably. Problem is he competes at 56 and based on his last few performances in the WSB he was not very strong.
I love Cruz or La Sombra but I'd think he'd be terrible in the PROS.
From the Cuban team who I think is the best fighter all-around and can be the best pro is Roniel Iglesias at 69 kg. He's an olympic gold medalist. Got robbed in the Pan Am games against the Venezuelan dude and then against an Azerbeidjani in the Worlds. I mean Toledo beat the Russian that won the Gold at the Wolrds 3 - o and htey gave it to the Russian who didn't even have ranking. But hey they can't have all the Cubans winnign gold cause after all it's a World Boxing Championship and not Cuban Boxing Championship. But Roniel Iglesias is like the Lomachenko to me in amateur boxing at the 69 kg class and he has more pop and maliciousness.
Here is Roniel Iglesias getting robbed at the Worlds:
I actually haven;t seen Roniel lose, have seen him get robbed the 3 times I've seen him lose.
We don't know how powerful he'll be as a pro. Remember they wear bigger gloves in the WSB and they are fighting elite competition for the most part, so it's extremely difficult to score TKO/KO's.
Yeah, I'm not convinced that la Cruz would make a great pro, but there are several people that want him to turn pro that's why I decided to place him on the list. Julio la Cruz is definitely one of the best amateur fighters right now, if not the best.
I do think Iglesias was robbed at World's. It was a disgrace, he beat the other guy badly especially in the last round. There was no way Iglesias lost. I think Yeleussinov and Rabii have a really good chance of defeating Iglesias. Rabii has already defeated him. I haven't seen that fight, so I don't know if it was a robbery or not.
As far as Iglesias turning pro, I would love to see it. I have always wanted to see him go pro. But if he has any intentions of making the jump he better do it ASAP. Time is running out for him. I don't think he's ever going pro.
I disagree with Toledo beating the Russian. I thought the Russian, Vitaly Dunaytsev, landed the better cleaner punches throughout the fight. It was a competitive fight and just because Toledo was coming forward does not mean he won.
Don't take this the wrong way, but don't tell me you're one of those hardcore Cuban boxing fans that always screams out robbery when a Cuban fighter loses?
In amateur boxing since it's only three rounds you are bound to have more competitive close fights.

I'm rooting for Ramirez to make a strong comeback, I think he's better than Andy Cruz. If Ramirez can beat Akhmadaliev (World Silver Medalist and I thought he deserved Gold) that's a great sign. If he doesn't do so well at this tournament that's not very good at all.
Luckily for Ramirez Andy Cruz has not qualified for the Olympics, so he still has a great shot.
Ramirez and Cruz will have to meet sometime before the Olympic qualification to determine who's the best and who will go to the Olympics.
Andy Cruz lost to a kid from BELARUS NOT Estonia and NO Cruz didn't get robbed! People have to learn the difference between close fights and robberies. That was a close competitive fight, all three rounds were. I thought the kid from Belarus, Asanau, did the better work. I was so impressed with him that he's turned to one of the fighters to watch at the Olympics next year in my opinion. Asanau lost a competitive fight to Conlan in the Semifinals. Asanau has really smooth footwork and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this 19 year old. I hope he medals at the Olympics then turns pro.Comment

It was a close competitive fight and I thought Roniel pushed the pace, out-threw and outlanded Rabbi even at the end of the second round Rabbi received a body shot and going into his corner fell on the chair. Rabbi and the Moroccan team trained in Cuba with the Cubans.
As far as me being a Cuban boxing fanatic, yes I am but does this mean I'm nuts, hell no. Robeisi Ranirez I thought lost against a Moroccan guy in Havana as he posed for 5 rounds and didn't do any work but they gave him the victory. I've seen Erislandy Savon get a gift decision against Kazahstan. I've seen Lara lose to Canelo.
Yasnier lost both fights against Lomachenko. He didn't lose to Arthur at the Pan-Am games, why do you think Arthur decided not to face him in the semi-finals at the Amercas championship? I didn't think the Russian beat him at all.
So yeah Cubans amateur wise have been the best in the business for decades. Pan AM games 10 medals, Worlds 6 or 7. I mean they got 4 golds, Russia is behind them with 2 golds. Kazahstan and Azerbeidjan 1 gold each. Cuba is head and shoulder above everybody else in amateur boxing and the only reason Cuban doesn't get more medals at these competitions is because they it's the World Championships and not the Cuban Boxing Championships. How are you gonna give the Azerbeidjani guy a victory over Roniel when he got torn up for 3 rounds. Is it not a fact that Azerbeidjan, Russia, Kazahstan and Russia invest the most money in the sport? So yeah I can recognize when a Cuban loses and when he's given a gift win like I showed you with examples but common man Ronniel losing and Yasnier losing at the pan Am at the Worlds. About the Andy Cruz fight it wasn't exactly a robbery, my bad. I thought the Belarus kid won the first round and from then on Andy won the last 2 and it was competitive. I can even see maybe Andy losing just cause it was competitive. I don't think Yasnier lost a round against Dunaytsev. I think he outclassed him. Yasnier lost the first round against Arthur I don't think he lost a round against Dunaytsev and I don't think Roniel lost a round agains tthe Azerbeidjani guy. The Azerbeidjani guy that beat Vetia at 54 deserved the win and it was a close competitive fight. Erislandy Savon deserved to lose as his heart shrinks when the competition gets harder.Comment

As far as Robeisi I like his style better than Andy Cruz but the last two fights of his in the Worlds he didn't look good. They said that there was a discipline issue and they took him off. Now he's back so let's see if he can regain his form. Beating Andy Cruz in Cuba doesn't guarantee him a spot on the national team. In Cuba it's different. Mario Kindeland used to lose against a guy from Santiago de Cuba nationally all the time yet he was the one representing Cuba.Comment

And while we're on that me calling all Cuban losses robberies. Selimov is one of the best technical fighters, he's an all timer in my opinion. Did you see him win against Conceisao from Brazil? I didn't. I thought Conceisao rightfully won against Lazaro Alvares in the Pan Am games.
And if it wasn't for the cut that Selimov suffered against Lazaro Alvarez in the finals Lazaro would've been robbed and he was outclassing Selimov. He made Selimov look like a sparring partner and thankfully he cut him cause had it been gone to the score cards poor Lazaro would've been robbed.Last edited by pesticid; 12-03-2015, 12:35 PM.Comment

I also don't think that Tony Yuca won his semifinal or the final yet he became the champ. Now that the point system is out I think there is even more corruption in amateurs boxing. Some of the scores were ridiculous.
Also let's say you win the first 2 rounds, why fight the third? How are you gonna catch up? Have you seen a comeback from 2-0 in the amateurs. I am yet to see one. It's like the ref agree to give the first 2 round to one fighter and to not look completely corrupt they won't give him the last one but he still won.Comment
