What was the main reason Tyson Fury was able to beat Wladimir Klitschko?

Wlad himself claimed to be in peak form before the fight and said age would not be a factor. He was befuddled by Fury's movement and messy style and was beaten so comprehensively it's hard to give him the benefit of the doubt in any theoretical. Fury gets full credit for the win.

His height, reach, unpredictability.
Yes Wladimir is old and slowing down but I'm not convinced age was the deciding factor.
If it was how come he could suddenly pull the trigger in the eleventh and twelfth? He was moving fine too.
He has a history of being in position to land and clinching or getting opponents in headlocks and leaning on them because he is worried of getting countered & its very frustrating.
Wladimir is just way too conservative, scared of taking a shot & has always struggled with movement. His cautiousness finally worked against him.
He didn't attempt once to jab to the chest to stabilise Fury. Quite shocking given his pedigree and experience.
Fury switched stances, fought tall, fought short, used feints and it kept Wladimir in his shell.
Wladimir is a great HW but he is very limited or should I say basic? He is a headhunter, a conservative head-hunter who done great things by fighting smart and keeping it simple. Last night that hurt him.
I can't blame Banks as shocking as he is, Wladimir is just cautious by nature and wouldn't even up when he had Manny bellowing at him.
I don't think Wladimir of a few years ago could beat him either I think pre Manny Steward version has the best shot. The one who was more aggressive and would let his hands go.
Conservative Wladimir has little chance outside of landing the steelhammer.
Fury isn't aesthetically pleasing but his crudeness worked to his advantage. It wasn't pretty but it was crafty and well executed. He had to much in the toolbox. It was a great disciplined gameplan even his taunts and throwing looping shots off balance, there was a method to his madness.

Fury's style has changed. It gets him wins against better comp, but it's hardly aesthetically pleasing.

I can't see how age really played any part in this. I think Fury is just all wrong for Wlad.
I mean let's be honest, I like Wlad but at the same time, he is no great champion. We are talking about a guy who has clearly been using padded rings to tire out his opponents, leaning on smaller men, turning his back on opponents in the clinch etc... he uses every dirty trick in the book to gain an advantage.
8 years ago, Wlad was still a timid boxer, his tactics haven't changed, he would have fought the same way against Fury no matter what his age, that is just the way he does it.

As much as you want to believe Wlad is shot...he is not. Fury has height, reach, and ability as many said before the fight, this and his tactics allowed him to beat an overrated champion. Wlad is cut from the same cloth as a Hopkins, in the sense that he has taken very little punishment and doesn't fight often since his title reign. Yes training camps are wear and tear, but I think he could fight for a number of years at championship level. He struggled against Jennings because in the US he gets more clamped down on for his holding, and so he can't implement his usual tactics and take his usual breaks by clinching and leaning on. Jennings showed a good chin which we didn't expect, there was nothing wrong with Wlad. Watch his next fight as long as its not against Fury or Wilder he will look like Wlad.
His dominance was based on fighting smaller fighters and generally very average competition. I think if you asked David Haye if he had been a cruiserweight in the 90's whether he would have been able to make a successful run at heavyweight I am sure privately he would say no. He was able to work his way to Wlad because it was a weak division and has been for a long time, not Wlad's fault of course. Full of C and D level heavies. Byrd and Haye are B/B+ heavyweights...but they are small. Povetkin as well. Fury is the first good heavyweight Wlad has fought who is a big man like himself, and can reach his chin, that was the game changer in this scenario, but even then Fury is hardly an exceptional fighter. Deontay Wilder is not great either but he may have a chance as well because he carries power, has some physical ability and again has the dimensions to get to Wlad's chin.
