Keith Thurman would probably agree with this.
Isnt it time we 'derecognise' the WBA?

The alphabet boys may be crooks, but the Jones-Maccarinelli story is a false story. That fight will not be for a WBA belt.Comment

This.
I used to be on some rainman **** with current title holders. I used to be able to name all the HW champions from John L to the most recent in order. Nowadays I don't really know or care who holds what belt...or interim belt or super belt or diamond belt.
I know who the best guys are in most divisions off the dome. And in the lighter divisions where I don't get to see those guys as much cuz American TV hates the lil guys, I have rankings I trust to give me some idea on how good guys are & where guys stand. But if I happen to know what belt the top guys hold its just pretty much about how often I've read stories about the guy, if I've taken it at some point while watching their ring walks & fights or just dumb f#cking luck.
In fact I avoid saying the names of the titles as much as I can. I think they have destroyed some very basic things in boxing. Like who's a champion. Who's a top ten contender. Title defense records. Winning multi-titles. All those things are less meaningful, less telling about the caliber of a boxer than ever before in boxing.
If cats wanna derecognise alphabet groups I'd suggest all of them are worthy of your lack of attention. In a sense it'd change nothing about the current landscape. There isn't a real champion now & there wouldn't be one if you quit f#cking with all the alphabet groups.Comment

I couldn't agree more. The WBA are only getting worse, a feat thought to be impossible as they have already polluted the sport with 3 'world' titles per division.
But look at what theyve done recently:
Allakhverdiev was miraculously risen 5 ranks up within the WBA ratings, coincidentally in tandum with the negotiations for the Broner fight. At no. 10, he suddenly became no. 5 to ensure he was eligible for the WBA regular title for (no 2) Broner. He didnt fight at all to achieve this. In fact, other fighters in the top 10 dropped in the rankings or remained the same, despite actually fighting. Compromised by Al Haymon.
We now have a WBA interim interim champion at 160, even if its for the shortest time. This one needs no explanation. You couldnt make that up. Poor boxrec cant even catch up with the 'WBA world champion' anymore. Go have a look, its sad.
The Jones Jr-Enzo fight will be for the vacant WBA Super championship. This is despite the fact Enzo isnt even rated at all at cruiserweight, and Jones isnt even in the WBA top 15. In fact, theres already a WBA champion at the weight, in Lebedev. This effectively means that Lebedev is no longer a fully recognised champion (being demoted to regular). This also sets a new precedent - the WBA super championship can be vacant, and can be contested by ANYONE. No ratings required.
TBRB put it best - 'helplessly corrupt'. Can we just stop recognising their titles?
I don't care for any of them but the WBA is the absolute worst. I don't know what it will take to get rid of their ****** policies but I hope it happens soon.Comment

I see what you're saying, but the fighter who is the mandatory is stepping aside themselves... the sanctioning body is pretty much following their wishes. I think most cases like this, the title is either vacated or the mandatory is fought afterwards. The alternative would be the mandatory losing their spot for accepting a step aside. I'm not sure either scenario is optimal so I really take no issue hereComment
