I believe so.
I think the P4P #1 spot is going to keep switching for a few years though. Once you earn it you have to keep it, right?
One thing working for someone like Gonzalez is that he has several names around his weight class he could fight (Estrada, Inoue, Ioka, Ruenroeng, Cuadras, Arroyo, Tete, Reveco); some names better than others, obviously.
I don't understand why nobody at Welterweight or Light Welterweight want to clean up or are trying to clean up their divisions. They have the names to do it, they just don't seem to want to. If I was Kell Brook, for example, I would start trying to fight of all these guys instead of wasting my time fighting other fighters. Then they would have a claim at a top P4P honor.
Somebody like Walters or Lomachenko could also do some cleaning at Featherweight-Lightweight (especially 130, a really stacked division at the moment). Then they would be consideration to be one if not the best. There are a few more fighters that could potentially pop up into the conversation.
The thing working against Ward or Kovalev is who do they fight afterwards? Will they be able to fight the Haymon fighters?
These coming years are going to be very interesting. Unlike the Mayweather and Pacquiao era, where there was only two fighters fighting for the top spot, this coming era there will be quite a few fighters alternating spots. I'm personally excited.
You also have to put Klitschko in there. Who has racked up a good resume and could still add a few names before he calls it a day.
It's just something to think about.
