What's funny to me is this guy cleaned out 168 YEARS ago and his fans don't apply the same "well he's clearly the best in the division he needs to move up" as they do to Gennady.

Golovkin is doing the exact same thing Ward did. Ward cleaned out his division, became lineal champ, unified titles. Golovkin has unified titles and is attempting to unify the last belt and lineal title. What is the difference here? Ward never moved up (besides a 172 pound fight against Paul Smith). Difference? None.

What is funny exactly? If you were a boxing manager would u have your fighter execute his mandatory position for boxing's biggest fight in Golovkin vs Canelo for all the middleweight titles OR would you have your fighter forget about that, move up in weight and sign a fight for mid to late 2016 in Ward? Lol good thing you're not a manager.

Ward-Kovalev is also bigger than Ward-GGG. Ward beats Kovalev and he's the king of boxing, no debates about it. Kovalev is the most dangerous guy in the sport.

Agreed. I'm a big Ward fan, and I would like to see GGG fight Ward, but to ask GGG to fight Ward before clearing out his division, doesn't make sense to me. And if Ward has outgrown his division, then he should move up, but if he can still make 168 comfortably, then stay and continue to dominate your division until you get beaten by your successor.

People are always saying someone has outgrown a weight or need to move up just because they are the best in their division. I like to see fighters unseat the champion and I like to see unification matches. I'm getting tired of the going up in weight and catchweights now. It was cool until the built-in excuses of being drained or I didn't bring any power to this weight, etc. came to the fold. Let GGG stay where he's at. He's already 33, so he may not be able to go up.

You think Golovkin-Canelo happens before late 2017? Because as a boxing manager I would have a hard time seeing how that fights comes off quickly. I see that fight as a pipe dram where as the Ward fight could actually be real.

Actually, according to WBC this week, both camps have said it will be next.

I don't care what they told the WBC, that was what they had to say to keep the titles intact for that one fight. After that fight occurs those words are less than meaningless.

What is important is how important Canelo and Cotto are to their companies, neither are getting sacrificed to Golovkin (which incidentally is why Golovkin won't fight Ward soon) just because it is a big fights. In time sure it would eventually come off but Golovkin would be getting jerked around for a long time first.
