An Exclusive HBO Contract has no benefits, if anything it seems keep someone like Kovalev from reaching his full earning potential if anything. HBO is important to boxing don't get me wrong, both HBO and Showtime is needed for the sport of boxing because it is no way you can squeeze all of these fighters on just 1 Network and give everybody their air time. However, that Exclusive Deal with HBO for Kovalev is holding that man back because in his Division, HBO has nothing for him, I guess they will try to show Kovalev vs Pascal II down our throats
He'd be better off with a promoter who can work with Haymon, perhaps someone like Lou DiBella.

Gonzalez is in discussions to fight Beterbiev in November in an IBF final eliminator

Sullivan Barrera is available for Kovalev (he can't fight in Canada so he won't be fighting the proposed IBF eliminator vs Beterbiev).

No, he is better off doing a fight to fight deal with HBO instead of being stuck in a long term exclusive deal in which you can only fight on their network and no place else. Because when the Budget Dries up for HBO in a year guess what fighters will have to do? Sit Out For The Remainder of the Year after just 2 Fights!

Sullivan Barrera isn't fighting Beterbiev now, so why not make Kovalev-Barrera? Duva promotes them both, so she could make it if she really wants to.
No it really doesn't hurt a boxer of his age and style of fighting, maybe a young guy who needs to keep learning his craft. Kovalev is a professional, he is very responsible in the ring. He is not a party animal, brawling type of fighter who depends on his chin and a come forward style to get checks. He is very aware defensively.

It's a good balance for boxers like himself to have a good time with their family and box. It's good for their mind. He fought twice, he is in his 30s, that's fine. Responsible professionals like Mayweather, Ward, Kovalev, don't need to worry about inactivity like other boxers do. When you are away from the ring, what you are doing during this inactivity is what matters. If Kovalev will be drinking beer and letting himself go, that's bad. Will he do that? No, so no it does not matter. He'll be back early next year and he'll be fine.

Interesting. So apparently Andre Ward controls Kovalev's career now?

Wow, fighting on HBO sounds great.

So now..... we cant watch Kovalev Stevenson, because of HBO..... instead we get to watch Kovalev..... do nothing.
