There is no reason whatsoever to mention Mayweather and Golovkin in the same sentence, they having nothing in common at all.

I think he mentions Wards name more than Ward mentions Kovalev's name.

Kovalev didn't just beat BHop, he completely outclassed him, schooled him, whatever you want to call it. Nothing there to suggest the result would have been any different if Bhop had been 45, 35, or 25. He would still have been up against a man who was bigger, stronger and more powerful than him, with the skill and nouse to make those physical advantages tell.

Andre Ward isn't basically a prime Hopkins, any more than Kovalev was basically another Kelly Pavlic, as some people deludedly believed.

He did not, Hopkins was unable to overcome the technical difficulties posed by Kovalevs style/length.

BTW, Hopkins was 50, you do know that right ?

Hopkins known skillset/abilities were not on display, he got old.

I am not saying that Hopkins could not have beaten a different fighter on that night, just not Kovalev - who is legit, and stuck to a great gameplan.

..... but I think it is more accurate to say that Kovalev was too much for Hopkins at that point in time due to Hopkins age and Kovalevs style.

If Kovalev was this master boxer like you make out, they would have fought Stevenson when they had the chance.

Kovalev used a safe/simple gameplan, and he stuck to it..... and Hopkins did not have enough left to deal with it, at that point in time.

Boxing is a young mans game..... Ward is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the sport, and Ward is not 50..... which is why Hopkins wouldn't fight him.

Andre Ward is Andre Ward, and nobody else. And Andre Ward will never beat Kovalev, because he isn't going to take the risk of fighting him. Ward is not like BHop, not at all.

Just out of curiosity, do you think that Mayweather outclassed Pacquiao ?

And, did you spend 5 years saying that Mayweather will never fight Pacquiao?

Judging by your position, Ward will make you look ****** just by fighting Kovalev, let alone beating him..... just like Mayweather did to the Pacquiao fans

Kovalev is 183, with a 184 reach.

After losing to Taylor, Hopkins jumped TWO DIVISIONS and beat Antonio Tarver, who was 188, with a 191 reach.....

Kinda crazy to argue about this really.

Commentators have been saying for more than a decade that Hopkins will get old at some point. He defied nature for long enough.

Hopkins could likely have beaten other fighters on that night, but Kovalevs style/length made Hopkins look old..... it had to happen eventually.

That doesn't mean that Kovalev is not a terrific fighter.
