      No

      It

      Did

      Not.

That is one of the popular myths but it's just not true. It predates Robinson and can be found well over a decade before he turned pro. For instance, run simple search with ["pound for pound" and "boxing" and "Armstrong"] on the NYTimes website, sort by oldest, and you can find references to Henry Armstrong in, say, 1937.

Have to see the fight first. He was on pre-Estrada.

i personally think you could take the top 5 or 6 guys and arrange them in any order at the moment. It would be fun to take them guys and start a thread titled "Who will win in 2016 and who will lose?" I can't be bothered to do it though.

so if roman up 6-0, dominating, then viloria catches him with a lucky punch for ko/tko....

              probably not huh?

Don't like to speculate before fights on where they end up rated.

They effect perceptions. How a fighter is perceived is the whole enchilada. I think your are refusing to see my point even though it's clear as day... selective reading, it's called.

the term P4P came about around sugar ray ROBINSON era.

RING started its official P4P list 1989-1990.

the top heavyweights around that time was tyson, holyfield, bowe, witherspoon, old foreman, etc. mostly americans.

why do you say ****** ass crap based on absolutely nothing?
No... it was around prior. However prominence of the list has increased as of late. American people absolutely hate the heavyweight division now.... that era you named.. where robinson was #1... how many heavyweights were on the list, and what positions? That right there tells you people were more enamored with the hw division at that time.

Also, why are you so angry?

Oh that explains it. Another frustrated non believer.

Anyway, I already pointed out how changing someone's size also changes the physics of how they move. So much for the "eye test". But you don't want to hear that do you.

People used to be more literal is one argument that can be made. The Heavyweight champ was then what he is now: literally the best boxer in the world. All the rest is fun speculation but everyone isn't the same size and there is no magic thing that makes it so. That they've monetized P4P the way they have is really great for bank rolls, but at the end of the day, when people are calling Floyd or anyone else the best of this era, it's not literally true.
