Roman has some very good wins and some very dominant wins over very good fighters. Add that to what we can see of him, his skill set and power, he deserves to be top 10 or 20 p4p but not top 1. Those top 3 spots have to be reserved for the very best guys around.
Is Roman Gonzalez really P4P no. 1?

Ding ding ding! That's exactly right and most of the point I'm making. The guy is super impressive visually but it most likely had a lot to do with who has been in front of him. He's just not a proven P4P no. 1 guy yet......I feel many people are just going along with this because others are jumping on the Gonzalez bandwagon and they don't want to be viewed as fans who only watch heavier divisions. They want to appear more hardcore than casual.
Probably can't name more than 3 of his opponents or their accomplishments/credentialsComment

IDK, he looked awfully sharp. I know Smith was not a super six guy level but he is a lhw and looked like a 3rd grader in there against Ward who would be in high school.Ah I agree that he shouldn't have to redo his whole resume but he should have to at least prove that he's fighting at the level he was before. Fighting Paul Smith didn't do it for me personally, so I wouldn't put him as number 2 right now but give him one good win and I might be willing to place him that high.Comment

Not that I disagree with your overall point, but without putting actual numbers to what you're saying, it is essentially meaningless.I could say, statisticly speaking, that it is possible that the 263 minimumweight fighters are the greatest fighters to ever walk the planet, and I would be speaking the truth. Context matters.I'm talking about talent pool, it was just an example, and youre just prving my point for me:
Top middlewight southpaws
Andy Lee(who GGG wouldve faced if not for the death of his dad btw)
Willie Monroe
Billy Joe Saunders
Korobov
Heiland
Full time fighters who have all been hyped prospects and some with extensive amateur backgrounds.
Top flyweight southpaws
Full time filipino construction workers.....

keep denying the truth.Comment

this just reeks of golden boy shenanigans.
How the hell can you name a god damn flyweight whose best win is what edgar sosa #1 overall p4p????
i dont like ward but i would have been fight with him getting that. hell i dont like wladmir's style but naming wladimir #1 is better than naming some 112lb nobody has heard of and who fights in a division WHERE THERE ARE NO GREAT FIGHTERS #overall p4p.
sorry boxing hipster douche bags,
not buying.
he isnt all that either. sure great technique, but he looks like a poor man's verision of ricardo lopez who also didnt get any respect because he hid out at low ass weights instead of moving the fck up.
DISHONEST RANKING.
DO NOT RESPECT IT.
I like roman gonzalez, he is smooth, very well schooled, technically sound, but he is not #1 overall p4p.
you should have at least waited until his fight vs viloria who would be his most notable opponent. says a lot.Comment
