so he fights a complete bum and tries to fight another(zac dunn) and that's good enough to put him at #2? nostalgia is a powerful thing

But Roy hasn't accomplished anything major in over 15 years maybe, so it's a little different. The ring gave their explanation on Ward's placement at #2. Layoff or not, he's still one of the best fighters in the game easily. He cleaned out 168, afterwards took on a top 10 fighter at 168, had a layoff due to contractual disputes, took a soft touch as a comeback fight, and is now in talks to fight best LHW on the planet, after failing to get a fight with the best MW on the planet, and he himself is the best SMW on the planet. The guy deserves his placement. The guys under him are nowhere near accomplished as he is, and definitely not as technically sound.

I can't agree. Ward cleaned out his division three years ok. If they contradict their original reasoning.

Also, I read today that the fight with the best LHW on planet, Ward isn't taking it yet. That's why he is pushing so hard on GGG.

There's no reason not to. The only fighter Ward has missed since 2009 is Lucian Bute, who turned out to be a dud anyway.

On paper it makes since, but Ward could of had it months ago, Kovalev has stated repeatedly he would take on Ward.

But Ward is trying to get PPV dollars for a tune up on the Cotto/Canelo fight.

he's the best based on what though? because he was good 4 years ago? lots of things happen in 4 years. there have been 4 different super bowls since then. a lot has changed. the present trumps the past when doing rankings. nostalgia alert!

he had a layoff because of ducking and being selfish. don't get it twisted. it was 100 percent his fault. he was offered great money fights with top guys(bute, stevenson, froch 2) and he refused. while he was doing this he tried to fight truax, sartison, periban, and pavlik. Hbo turned down those bums cept pavlik but that fight was cancelled. its pretty clear he didn't want to fight anyone good. he got his 2 million guarantee then tried to fight easy fighters over and over to collect that money but hbo didn't let him thankfully. now he has that same guarantee and look who he's fighting(paul smith and zac dunn)

over the last 4 years they are much more accomplished. how far back do you want to go? 4 years is a damn long time. we don't rank people based on total accomplishments otherwise guys like toney and roy would still be on the list. they haven't proven themselves in years and either has ward. why does ward get special points just because he hasn't taken any risks?

That was a pretty damn strong riposte. Your right, Ward is living off of what he had done in the past. And not only that, he has also drained himself to fight at SMW.

If Ward shows me something, I'll believe again. Right now he is a has been who won't fight his most natural competitor.

I agree. I actually believe that's why they choose Ward for GGG, because GGG knocks everyone out, the only way to beat him to to clinch him all night.

A 185 pound Ward would have the best chance to do that.

Luckily team GGG is smart enough to stick to the game plan and not be suckered into a fight where Ward just holds, clinches, runs all night.

Having said that, I still think GGG beats Ward if he moved up.

I just don't want the two new MW pretenders to use it to duck GGG.
