Hopkins hadn't put his body through 350 amateur fights, but yeah, the Trinidad fight when he was 31 (followed by the Oscar fight at 34) was probably that breakout moment.
Golovkin is 33 years old, Ward is there, ready to give him that signature opportunity, and yet he still ducks the opportunity (With an Olympic gold medal around his neck, Ward had already picked up two defining moments by the age of 28).
I doubt that Golovkin fights Cotto/Alvarez (both guys have openly talked about being far more comfortable at junior middleweight, and I don't honestly see Cotto fighting beyond this final series of fights with Alvarez).
Hopefully Team Golovkin wises up before their guy gets to the age of 35
Hopkins was 37 when he fought Trinidad and 40 when he fought Dela Hoya. He was 36 when he finally fought another MW title holder. Golovkin is 33 fighting his first unification fight and may have the WBO unification early next year, irregardless of Alvarez/Cotto.
Ward is the one who should be worried, he has little to no options at 168 and seems reluctant to move to 175.
why would he move up when he's a comfortable 160 lber and middleweight has a deeper talent pool than super middle at the moment anyway. it's a shame how much of his prime he lost in germany, but things seem to be finally going his way now. for a guy with no real inbuilt national or ethnic fan base, he has made big strides in the 2 or 3 years since moving stateside. unifying a division is a big accomplishment. his record will look pretty strong once that is achieved
But he's trying to strip BHOP down in weight to fight doe.
No he isn't. It's BHop who says he wants to go down in weight and fight Golovkin.
GGG wants his shot at the WBC and lineal MW titles at the sanctioned MW limit.
If you were a real boxing fan you would be complaining about the ridiculous and shamefull catchweight bull**** which has tainted the MW division for over a year now, instead of constantly whining about Golovkin's resume.

Canelo's the bread maker, it's expected of him. He still fights within the MW limit (155-160lbs) so if GGG wants to meet him in the ring, he needs to understand he's the B-side and he WILL go down to 155 lbs or no fight. Canelo must be doing something right because he continues to get the big fights. Triple G is fighting some Uber driver next isn't he?
