Trinidad beat Joppy for a MW title and Oscar got the decision over Sturm.
Likewise, Golovkin is trying to unify HIS OWN division. Cotto is lineal middleweight champion and WBC title holder, you know the belt Golovkin is mandatory to. Of course it's only natural for Golovkin to want the belts in his own weight class (isn't that the point of boxing?). Canelo's last three fights have technically been at middleweight and we all know he's eventually going to campaign at 160, the only question is when. As for a Floyd fight, that's just a dream fight, everyone wants Floyd (even Ward). Who doesn't say they would like to fight Mayweather and earn career high paydays?
How do you duck a guy that isn't in your own weight class? A guy who wasnt even fighting for two years and just made his comeback? That's like saying Ward has been ducking Kovalev.
I'll give you the Tito argument b/c it is true that Hopkins was not originally supposed to be in the Middleweight tourney. So technically speaking, Trinidad was a Middleweight when they fought.
De La Hoya on the other hand was a clear cherry pick, imo. DLH was not a Middleweight. He nearly had lost his only fight there to Felix Sturm.
Even though Ward and GGG aren't in the same division, it's clear as day there is nobody of worth for GGG to fight.
Cotto is not going to fight GGG at 160. He's already made that clear. Canelo also seems like he's refusing to commit to 160. Both of those guys would rather not face GGG.
So it only makes sense to rise up in weight and take on Andre Ward. Ward wants it after his 2 year layoff. We know he had legal issues so lets stop trying to make it look like Ward just took 2 years off for the hell of it.
If GGG is as great as everyone believes he is then go up to 168 and holla at SOG.
That's what real champions do. I think a catchweight is acceptable as well.

Ward making $2 mil off a $3 mil revenue show doesn't mean he's worth more than Golovkin making $1 mil off a show that generates like $5 million. I'm just making up the numbers but you get the idea. GGG sells more tickets at higher prices and attracts more viewers. So why wouldn't he get more than 50% of the money generated from that?
This is going to be a PPV fight, and when it comes to that, the most important thing is getting someone who is willing to pay for PPV.
You don't have to be a PPV star to dictate terms. Though I don't care if the fight is at 168. It's more about the money.

W/O Ward - Golovkin can fight N'Dam in October, sell 10,000 tix, get 1.5mill tv views, make over a million from HBO another million from international sales.
W/O Golovkin - Ward goes back to BET, fights in front of a paper'd house, gets maybe 500,000 tv viewers, and loses his promoter another $2mill.
Meanwhile Ward can go up to 175 and fight Kov, Stevenson and even tired as Pascal.
Ward is already proven anyway.
He beat a prime Froch while GGG was trying to fight a retired Froch.
GGG still has to prove himself unlike Ward.

The fights inevitable but hope it happens sooner rather then later
Just have a feeling Loeffler will come with another lame excuse why this fight can't / wont happen this fall. K2 will say their busy negotiating with the Union To let one of their prized Janitors get the fight. But on the positive note the Janitor has the same style as Ward so in a way it's like GGG is fighting Ward so it's all good.

Of course the event bombed. They thought they would sell out MSG.
Golovkin is not the draw he's made out to be and any talk of A sides and B sides is laughable.
