I watched Thurman-Guerrero today and Thurman dominated but he fought on the backfooting pot shotting with hard shots. Against a blown up welter with no power like Guerrero, he should never have had any problems. But after the KD, he was pushed back a few times to the ropes in the remaining to rounds and ate some leather. Against a come forward fighter with power that would be trouble. He had 10lbs on Guerrero and spent most of the fight on the backfoot. He's a solid boxer puncher but I am very confident the likes of Maidana and Matthysse who would be the aggressor WILL beat him. They both use a good jab as of late and that will set off the offence. If any of those fights are made, hit me up as we have to bet some epoints. Thurman's power punches are winged whereas Maidana, Matthysse dont really need to wind up.

I totally agree with TS. I've not seen much from Thurman that make me think he'd beat the top welterweights. He's been hurt badly against Soto Karass and backed up by Robert Guerrero (his best win to date). He has power and decent boxing ability, but as soon as he fights someone who has a decent chin and the willingness to fire back, he's going to lose.

I don't know why people are bringing up Guerrero backing Thurman into the ropes. Thurman was still fighting back, landing some shots of his own, which just shows that he knows how to fight more than one way. In fact, in the 12th round, he looked like he was even more ready to do that against Guerrero.

I also don't get why people seem so sure that Mayweather can beat Thurman. Thurman has more fresher legs, great stamina, and is a natural welterweight that can punch, box, and move. I can't recall the last time Floyd has every fought someone like that and seeing how he's been looking lately, it's hard to say for sure how exactly he beats Thurman.

Because Guerrero is not a power puncher, if Matthysse gets you on the ropes this happens:

Molina is a big guy too, and middlewights have said he has freakish power in that right hand. Shame he refused to punch AB.

Guerrero forced Thurman into the ropes. There's no way Matthysse would do that to Thurman (who is bigger than Molina).

He hasn't met his Maidana counterpart yet (in relation to Broner). But I see signs of him getting exposed bit by bit. He likes to punish his opponents, but he hates getting punched in the face himself. He tasted Bundu's power and wanted none of it in the end and ran. Guerrero eventually caught him on the ropes and seemed helpless. Now he's toning down his rhetoric these days.

All heartedly agreed and Bundu was damn near 40 years old.

Thurman was billed as 5 ft 7 and a half vs Chaves, Molina is 5 ft 10 and a half. And you're seriously telling me Matthysse wouldn't put Thurman on the ropes? I don't think you've watched too much Matthysse have you. Only time I've seen him on the back foot was against Provodnikov who ate bombs. He was pushing the tempo against Garcia with one eye. Thurman's will get KO'd if he fights Matthysse, I'll bet all my points on it. Maybe survive a decision if he moves a lot like he did vs Bundu.

If your miles ahead, knocked the guy down with only a couple rounds left with your head looking like this:

                      What would you do?

I don't blame him for having some problems in a couple rounds. John Molina had Matthysse hurt and in much more of a dogfight than Thurman was in against Guerrero.

I think Thurman would DESTROY Matthysse. It's easy to say if this guy got Thurman on the ropes imagine what Matthysse would do without considering the other side of the fence...

So lets consider the other side, if Matthysse moves up will his power have the same effect on a big welter like Thurman?

How well will Lucas take shots from a big welter like Thurman?

Matthysse don't even apply relentless pressure and volume punches anyway, i don't think he would get the faster Keith on the ropes often enough. Maidana is even slower but at least he is busier, more awkward and now a comfortable 147 fighter, I can see Maidana landing a lot more leather than Lucas.
