Thurman isn't such a big deal...

Yes but not his power because Chaves fought no one before that. Most built up guys have good records. Chaves beat a guy 11-13 for the interim belt. I like Chaves and think his loss to Rios was BS but I don't consider him elite. He also has the reach of a T-rex (64inch). I've also said that I believe that's his best win.Last edited by SalimShady1212; 07-02-2015, 04:41 PM.Comment

Time will tell on Thurman. I think Brook, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Porter and Maidana can all beat him, but by the same token I think he can beat them too. Need to see him in those kind of fights.Comment

I agree Matthysse is more of a boxer puncher and of course Thurman will probably lose sooner or later but I just don't see Matthysse as the guy to do it, for promotional and style reasons.E
Adversity is when you have to comeback from a hard situation. Not when you have a lump ln your head vs a blown up featherweight. Matthysse never faced adversity before Molina because he was so dominant and that showed in the Garcia fight. Trust me, Thurman hasn't come anywhere near "adversity". We'll see what he's made of when someone solid hits him on the chin. He's a boxer puncher, not a slugger, he has underrated boxing skills (72-8 in the amateurs). Thurman 101-16 so both have solid boxing fundamentals.
Anyway I noticed you keep referring to Guerrero as a 'blown up featherweight' to discredit the win. Just because a guy started their career at a certain weight and moved up it don't always mean they are blown up, could Guerrero make 126 now without dying?
If Thurman fought Guerrero in 2012 instead of Aydin, then I can see the argument for him being a blown up lightweight but that was 3 years ago. Guerrero is clearly a welterweight now.Comment

I don't do it to degrade his win but rather point out his hypocrisy because he keeps on ****ing on about the term fully fledged welterweight, discredits fighters like Khan then fights Collazo. Funny how in his interviews last week he was going through Khan's resume at 147 and left out CollazoI agree Matthysse is more of a boxer puncher and of course Thurman will probably lose sooner or later but I just don't see Matthysse as the guy to do it, for promotional and style reasons.

I don't want anyone to fail but all I can say is who I think is the cream of the crop.
Btw Guerrero weighed 152 on fight night and Thurman was 162. Matthysse is 157 on fight night as is Crawford and Broner. Guerrero also said Aydin hit harder than Thurman. Not sure if thats true but he said that. Matthysse had the same reach as Thurman too. The fight is highly unlikely as Lucas left Al Haymon for golden boyLast edited by SalimShady1212; 07-02-2015, 06:17 PM.Comment

Thing is, Provodnikov had power that hurt Matthysse and even rocked him almost every time he landed. Thurman, being a welterweight, undoubtly hits harder than Provodnikov and I'm sure Lucas wouldn't be dumb to keep walking into those shots, especially when they're also much faster than Provodnikov's.Thurman was billed as 5 ft 7 and a half vs Chaves, Molina is 5 ft 10 and a half. And you're seriously telling me Matthysse wouldn't put Thurman on the ropes? I don't think you've watched too much Matthysse have you. Only time I've seen him on the back foot was against Provodnikov who ate bombs. He was pushing the tempo against Garcia with one eye. Thurman's will get KO'd if he fights Matthysse, I'll bet all my points on it. Maybe survive a decision if he moves a lot like he did vs Bundu.Comment

I agree. I don't see Thurman as the guy to beat Jr.
His boxing ability is B- at best and has his power to make up for his faults.
I also give Maidana, Pac with a broken arm, and Cotto a better shot than Thurman. Heck, maybe even Khan.Comment

I'm a Thurman fan but I admit that he was slightly disappointing tonight. He still won most of the rounds but I shook my head hard on he let Collazo bully and pressure him and I think he could have done a lot more to prevent this. I think from whatever reasons Thurman were gun shy today. It was pretty annoying. I mean a guy pressured him who isn't a really big puncher, there to be hit and even Khan knocked him down, Thurman should have put the leather on him, especially right hooks and right straights a lot more times than he did. There was absolutely no need from him to give the full lead to Collazo and backing up from him all the time. Thurman supposed to be the guy with the one punch KO power not Collazo... He should have countered the fuck out of Collazo and if he gets close, tie him up.
Sorry for looking like a smartass but I think Thurman really fucked up his strategy on this fight.
Thurman will have serious-serious problems in the future against better pressure fighters if he doesn't learn fight on the inside or at least learn to tie them up and push them back.
Actually I don't understand why not all the fighters learn how to fight on the inside. It can be so useful but still just so few fighters can do it well today.Last edited by HEND; 07-11-2015, 10:19 PM.Comment

I agree 100%, I had Collazo winning the last couple rounds and the way it was going, if they didn't butt heads, Collazo would have won the decision most likely.I'm a Thurman fan but I admit that he was slightly disappointing tonight.
