Kovalev KD-d Hopkins and KO-d Pascal in the 8th round light heavyweight. Two guys with solid chins. GGG went 10 round with Murray.
From this I think Kovalev is the harder hitter and add the obvious thing that Kovalev drops people on the same way as GGG does but two weight classes above --> he hits harder than Golovkin.
It's nice from him to compliment Golovkin but imo Kovalev can't feel hisown punches so I guess it's not a proper opinion.
The best would be ask the question from someone who got hit by both of them, but I say again I don't see much difference between them as far as the punching power goes but Kovalev does the same two weight classes above Golovkin so I can logically assume that he is the harder hitter.

I was listening to Paulie Malignaggi's podcast the other day and he said Golovkin ruptured Andre Dirrell's eardrum at the Olympics.

I think Kovalev hits harder, I think he was just trying to be nice and compliment Golovkin. Like he said they are friends after all.

Weight does'nt mean much for larger men when it comes to punching power, and I seriously doubt that Kovalev has 30lbs on GGG. More like 15-20lbs. Not sure who hits harder as both have bone crunching power, but you certainly can't base it solely off the fact that Kovalev is a bit of a larger man.

          How would he know?

I mean he knows how well Golovkin punches, but how does he know hard he hits in comparison. You would need it from someone who has been in the ring with both of them surely.

I would imagine that maybe Golovkin got the better of the sparring, but that would have as much to do with their chins as it does with power.

Who ever told you Cleverly had an iron chin?

I agree on Pascal and Hopkins but do believe that GGG could hurt either of them under the correct circumstances.

GGG carried Murray because he wanted to get some work in. He could have stopped him at any time after he knocked him down. He did the same thing to Monroe. It must get boring to end all his fights so quickly after putting in a full training camp. He wants his fans to get their money's worth and he wants to get a good workout.

I would not expect a fight against Cotto or Canelo or Froch to go so far into the later rounds. I think GGG will take them out at the first opportunity and not allow them any chances at all.

As for his punching power, EVERY fighter who has been in the ring sparring with him says the same thing about his punching power. Back in 2011, Canelo did not sit between rounds of sparring because GGG had stiffened his leg and he needed to shake it out. His power is real.

That is a bold statement considering how easily Kovalev drops and stops very durable opposition at a higher weight.

Classy of Kov to say that. Although I don't think he meant that GGG a MW hits harder than himself a LHW, I kinda feel like maybe he meant pound for pound GGG hits harder. Meaning his power to MWs is more damaging than Kovs power to LHWs; As opposed to "he is an overall stronger puncher than I am"

You kno Kovs English not the best, I figure he just didn't know how to say exactly what he meant.

The only fighter who can really compare his own punching power to someone else´s is Tyson Fury..
