I dont care what you call that..... but it cannot be called a cowardly duck for one guy, but not for the other guy.
Financially, it's the best option available to Stevenson, by far. If he wants it.

This is despite Team Kovalev (Duva) admitting that Stevenson moved to Shotime for financial reasons, but calling him a fake and a coward anyway.
Team Kovalev did the exact same thing in principle.

i agree that network deals should not interfere with the mandates of the sanctioning bodies. it's bull**** and would never happen in another sport
If HBO ponied up the money, delivering an offer that, at the least, was near the market value (HBO not having any ongoing relationship with GYM, where Haymon does have an ongoing relationship, would also likely command HBO to offer up a bit of a premium on the fight).
HBO is trying to secure, arguably the biggest fight to be made at light heavyweight in some time, at a steep discount and that simple position is something that some people refuse to acknowledge.

Kovalev has faced Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal in his last two fights and has had his name linked with WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and former super middleweight champion Andre Ward. Despite all of the rumors, Kovalev said that it is easy for him to focus on the task at hand.

A raccoon?
Kovalev fights Mohammedi in July, and then what?
If you can think of two fights for Kovalev that could be interesting to close out the year (eliminating all of the 175 fighters operating withing the PBC universe, in addition to the foreign 175 fighters who'd be unlikely to travel for an opponent's fee from HBO), I'd like to see the names.

Say what you want about the guy, when Stevenson made the move, he did so for a financially bigger offer for an already agreed-to fight, bigger purses going forward, fights with Bernard Hopkins, Jean Pascal, and Chavez Jr up for consideration, and a lead position in a massive exposure push for boxing.
Kovalev had basically a month of free agency, his team didn't gauge his value on the market, and he's now locked into a longterm deal with HBO, an outfit with basically no fighters at 175 affiliated with the network.
He'll basically spend the rest of his career, as long as he's tied with HBO, akin to Tim Bradley; a solid fighter, stuck in a situation where he's facing a slew of fights that no one will ever actually care about.

Showtime/PBC on ESPN seem more financially committed to Stevenson than HBO has ever seemed willing to be to Kovalev, and Stevenson-Fonara II would be the rematch, in Montreal and on Canadian PPV, of a fight that was actually a good one.
