Comments Thread For: Kovalev: Stevenson Deserves Belt of Mickey Mouse!

Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (27-0-1) recently held a press conference to announce his July 25th fight against Nadjib Mohammedi that takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be televised by HBO and be the first fight under his recent contract extension with the premium cable channel.

Kovalev has faced Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal in his last two fights and has had his name linked with WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and former super middleweight champion Andre Ward. Despite all of the rumors, Kovalev said that it is easy for him to focus on the task at hand.

Well he's certainly right about the opponent selection for Stevenson. It hasn't been good and it doesn't look to improve either. Stevensons next potential matchups will be against Rodriguez and then a Fonfara rematch... You're kidding yourself if you think GYM would ever put him in the ring with Beterbiev.

Adonis ducked Kovalev and now hes stuck fighting Fonfara, Skuhotzjysuyozdj, and Sakio Bika..... ahahahahahahahahahaha. Meanwhile Kovalev took out Hopkins and Pascal in that same amount of time, AND is fighting on HBO and making more money.

ahahahahahahahahahahaah. That's what he gets for ducking Krusher!!!

No remorse for that duck!! Krusher runs the division and has all the leverage.

It is Kovavlev side that does not want to show up for a purse bid right?
I think Stevenson puts fights with Fonfara and Beterbiev on hold because they will be the WBA and IBF mandatory of Kovavlev after his next fight (are they going to miss those purse bids too?). What if he were to get stripped of both those titles and we get to see Fonfara and Beterbiev with the winner facing the winner of Stevenson vs his WBC mandatory?

I think Fonfara is better than any of Kovavlev recent opponents. Hopkins and Pascal were wash up when he fought them.

If fans want the fight they have to stop giving his side a pass when it comes to the purse bids.

Sergey Kovalev will fight Mohammedi next, and then have two bum fights to fill the rest of the year, all because he refused to push for the Stevenson fight when everything in boxing was aligned to make that fight.

And this is without eliminating the foreign-based fighters not willing to travel for the maybe $250k that would be available for them as opponents.

Stevenson, after trying to make the Kovalev fight which Team Krusher backed out on, will likely fight Edwin Rodriguez in July/August, have the Fonfara rematch in the Fall, and then fight Jean Pascal/Lucian Bute early next year.

more meaningful than any next three fights for Kovalev, with Stevenson likely making more money for the three as well.

You're criticizing Kovalev for fighting his mandatories? lol.

When is Stevenson going to fight his mandatories?

The top 3 at WBC : Chilemba, Beterbiev and Alvarez. Will he fight any of those guys this year?

I'm going to say no way.
