Unless the numbers are massive, I'm not even sure Duva and Kovalev actually walked away with a better deal.

Say what you want about the guy, when Stevenson made the move, he did so for a financially bigger offer for an already agreed-to fight, bigger purses going forward, fights with Bernard Hopkins, Jean Pascal, and Chavez Jr up for consideration, and a lead position in a massive exposure push for boxing.

Kovalev had basically a month of free agency, his team didn't gauge his value on the market, and he's now locked into a longterm deal with HBO, an outfit with basically no fighters at 175 affiliated with the network.

He'll basically spend the rest of his career, as long as he's tied with HBO, akin to Tim Bradley; a solid fighter, stuck in a situation where he's facing a slew of fights that no one will ever actually care about.

To be honest with you, I am not as knowledgeable as some folks regarding the business side of things, it doesnt interest me too much..... I was just commenting on the obvious hypocrisy displayed by Team Kovalev..... but you make some great points there, good post.

If you can think of two fights for Kovalev that could be interesting to close out the year (eliminating all of the 175 fighters operating withing the PBC universe, in addition to the foreign 175 fighters who'd be unlikely to travel for an opponent's fee from HBO), I'd like to see the names.

Stevenson won't be fighting Pascal, they already couldn't come to terms when Pascal offered him 60-40 in his favor.

I think Kovalev will rematch Pascal after his mandatory and will only fight 3 times this year.

It's all very well saying Stevenson has great options, he always did, but if he doesn't want to take them, what good are they? (rhetoical question).

Kovalev is an elevated trash, and believe it or not, he duck Stevenson so hard, they bring up Ward name to patch the hole.

Look, team Kove/Duva build up Kovalev's reputation by making the audience believe Stevenson was running away from him, when if FACTS, they never wanted any part of a pissed off Stevenson, which they used to maximize Kovalev reputation for almost 2 years. Everytime you ask him a question about Stevenson, Kovalev plays dumb like he suddenly doesn't understand, and ask the russian traduction to his sugar daddy, Egis Klimas. The problem is, his manager doesn't translate, he only whispers Kovalev what he has to repeat.

And to her great surprise, she realize that Stevenson wanted that fight all along. Asking herself, how the F Adonis team are so confident, I have a bad feeling about this one, it's time to throw our bluff card on the map, like I did with the phony lawsuit I was about to lose.

If the purse worth the fight, it could be on HBO, Showtime or PBC, it doesn't matter because the shares would still be at 50% each opponents. Jean Pascal was Adonis Stevenson's mandatory challenger, already confirmed or just assumed; the split for a mandatory title defense for the WBC is 75/25 in the champion's favor. With things being the way they were, Stevenson's camp apparently wasn't willing to give Pascal 60/40 on a fight that would move to 75/25 once the purse bids came.

Pascal, after delivering the live gate and the revenue from Canadian PPV, split the pot near 50/50 with Kovalev. He lost.

There's no way that Pascal is going to, again, deliver the live gate, again, deliver the vast majority of the fight revenue on Canadian PPV, and give Kovalev even a 60/40 of the pot (knowing full well that he's the only option that brings Kovalev any real money).

Why give Kovalev a 65/35 split of the pot when he can give Stevenson that same 65/35 split and make for a much larger event (more meaningful fight in Montreal, leading to a bigger live gate/Canadian PPV; and a far bigger financial commitment than HBO's from whatever broadcaster that picks up the US TV rights [Showtime/ESPN]) and, according to some people here, a far more winnable fight?

On one hand, I am not convinced that Kovalev intentionally ducked Stevenson..... on the other hand, there are facts in your post that Kovalev supporters simply cannot ignore.

I dont believe all that coward/ducker rubbish, it really is ridiculous..... but I have no problem whatsoever calling Kovalev a coward and a duck for three reasons..... because of the comments he made toward Stevenson..... because of the absurd irrational hatred directed toward Stevenson by Kovalev fanboys, because of Kovalevs comments..... and because of the whopping great flip-flop performed by Team Kovalev over the failed purse bid.
