Really? I thought this was an easy fight to pick and I was actually shocked when I found out Jr was the favorite. Dude struggled hard against fringe contender Brian Vera, virtually lost every round against Martinez, has absolutely terrible defense, is terribly slow with his feet, and he doesn't have a very high punch output. He's basically a blown up super welterweight who's advantages in power would obviously be drastically reduced moving up to light heavy for the first time. Add to the fact that this was his first fight in over a year and you have an easy win for a guy like Fonfara who has proven himself as a contender in the light heavy division

The only three things that are good about Jr, is that he has an amazing chin, good power, and he goes to the body well. And in the light heavy division, it's clear that his chin and power aren't as strong. Jr is a bum! My Mexican coworker said on numerous occasions that Jr is a disgrace to his fathers name and to the Mexican people.

        • Haymon should be kicking himself right now. Chavez Jr. Is a huge cash cow, top 5 most popular fighters in the sport plus all the fans in Mexico who watch him fights. I'm sure haymon settled out the wazoo with arum to get Chavez Jr. This was a high risk low reward fight for Chavez Jr, when Carl froch was available and would have at least got Chavez Jr. A nbig payday for a big risk

          • This. I agree wholeheartely. No discipline still won't listen to his dad like wtf is sr not his head trainer? Why because Jr doesn't want to listen to him outta spite anyway I think Jr is done. He had no technique looked like an ameteur unless he can squeeze his ass back down to a shmedium and dominated smaller dudes. I'm actually through with him.

            • Stop ***in disrespecting the sport! Pick a division, make weight for it and stay in it and actually make a name for yourself instead of making up weight classes as as he fights.

Props to Fonfara, i think he is just underrated and people are finding out the HARD WAY that this guys is way better than they give him credit for. They come in thinking he is a push over and leave regretting that they took a fight with him

I think GGG knew that fight was forever a no go. A loss to GGG would not have been nearly as bad on Jr's reputation as this loss was. GGG probably see's it as poetic justice.

Still, there are a lot of positives to look to, his chin holding up at light heavyweight being the biggest one.

Chavez takes a couple weeks off, goes back into the gym to keep fit, and continues with the plan that he was moving with.

Next fight is at 168, against a so-so guy, in August/September, before closing out the year with another fight at 168. Win both of those fights and Chavez can eye a big fight March/April 2016.
What Jr needs to do is actually learn the basics of boxing! The dudes gotten by because he fought less than stellar competition on his way up. He goes to the body well and he has good power, that's all I'll give him. He offers next to nothing in the defense department, blocks with his face, fights slow, and his punches are beyond wild. Anyone who can take a punch well, move well, and has a decent jab or workrate stands a very good chance at beating Jr.

                    • I think everyone is wrong in instantly thinking chavez is just a **** fighter. This fight was more of a case of FOnfara being a great light heavyweight, and needs to rematch steveson. Chavez fought a guy that was his size, chavez had been picking on smaller guys most of his career.
