I'm saying it was easier to make the fight back then then it is now because Stevenson turned down a more favorable offer.
Security is important for fighters. The smart managers and promoters look for that.
Back then Stevenson was offered Kovalev + more fights. So win or lose he still gets fights on HBO. He declined that to go to Showtime for presumably more money and there's no problem with that.
The thing is Kovalev isn't offered a favorable deal in this situation. Because It's one fight or nothing. There's no security. He doesn't have a contract long term with Haymon and PBC or Showtime. It's one fight and that's it.
Kovalev's people want the fight on HBO. Stevenson's want it on PBC. That's going to make things very difficult.Comment

That is why you can't ride hard with guys in boxing, things change when you go from being the hunter to the hunted.
Kovalev is Main Event's only horse that is not destined for the glue factory (at least any time soon), you can not **** up with your most valuable asset. Stevenson is no longer the target he once was, now he is a huge risk to their future wage earning potential. Not to mention Duva needs him for the HBO relationship, just in case she can scrounge up someone kind of decent that they will take as a b-side.
That is how the cookie crumbles though in this game.Comment

Kovalev's HBO contract expired after the Pascal fight. They didn't have to sign another HBO contract fully knowing the purse bid was coming.Comment

They made a counter offer that's respectable. I wouldn't want to see this fight on PBC, either.http://www.tvasports.ca/2015/04/14/l...valev-en-peril
Because they knew they would lose.
What do the fans say now?Comment

Not trying to justify Stevenson, just to ruin your theory of somebody sticking up for Stevenson and playing sides...I THINK KOVALEV WOULD BEAT STEVENSON! OK?
So now we got that BS out of the way, back to the Topic...To say Stevenson and Kovalev was just as Popular in 2013 as they are now is again Ridiculous
The fight is much BIGGER NOW than it was in 2013 it is no doubt about that. This situation goes beyond the fighters, I don't blame Stevenson or Kovalev for this, it is all HBO and Duva who want to dictate things but yet not willing to put the money up to win the bid so that they can dictate thingsComment

Like i mentioned. Kov is the one getting punched in the head not me so if he wants the money over fighting Stevenson then who am i to argue it.
