Yeah and no Manny v Cotto 2. I thought for sure he'd fight the winner in September. Maybe he actually does fight GGG next?

Before the Martinez fight the offer was 10 million then he becomes the Lineal MW champion and out sold Canelo on PPV and they offer only 500k more to fight in ****ing Texas for gods sake where he would need a KO because of the bull **** that goes on on that state.

They even went as far as to make him Felix Verdejo's co-promoter. Top Rank could've just been greedy and had the best prospect in boxing exclusively to themselves. The least Cotto could've done was return their calls and not gone behind their backs to sign with Roc Nation.
They agreed to co promote Verdejo because they wanted Verdejo on Cotto undercard bouts to expose him to a bigger audience. They where using Cotto to build up their fighters more than Cotto was using them.

This is what people don't understand. Everyone looks out for their best interest. Top Rank didn't promote Cotto's last two fight simply because Cotto was a nice guy. They wouldn't have promoted his next fight whether it was against Bradley or Rios (both TR fighters) or Alvarez if it wasn't in TR best interest.

Cotto can sell in NY, that's not the issue (although to be fair, we've seen how Cotto can sell in NY with Top Rank, not with Roc Nation yet).

The issue is more about how much Roc Nation will make from all this.

If Cotto's getting a big guarnatee, then that's good for him...he'll get paid.

            But will Roc Nation?

People act like Top Rank actually cared for Cotto. They both made millions for eachother but Top Rank does what is best for Top Rank so why cant Cotto do what is best for him?

That being said... my favorite fighter has fallen to the powers of boxing politics. It happens to the best of them and I'm greatly disappointed.
i wouldn't sweat it if i was a cotto fan, i think, in my humble opinion, he's being smart and doing things his way, he's been in the sport for 15 years and knows enough to make intelligent decisions, especially considering the fact that he's in the twilight of his career

If it is, then he made the right move. At the tail end of his career, he should be trying to make as much money as he can. If that means signing with Roc Nation, so be it. The only time people talk about loyalty is when they are the ones being screwed (as opposed to doing the screwing).

I'm wondering if Top Rank is just starting to feel the pressure and their chokehold on boxing is getting loosend quickly. Haymon obviously has some deep pockets and we know that RocNation does. Top Rank simply doesn't have enough side business to sustain the risk of putting up more money than anyone else it appears.

RocNation can lose money on a fight with Cotto in order to build their own brand. Top Rank can't match them because they really don't have much to build on anymore and, like the WWE, it appears Arum and McMahon have lost their touch. 50 years is a great run for any company, but Top Rank doesn't have many fighters and Arum seems more interested in China that building boxing up in the US. At least Haymon and Rocnation are trying to build something here, not suck the blood out of the landscape and leave which seems to be what Arum is doing.
