No, Canelo was open to Vegas. Face it, Cotto didn't want the fight.

If Cotto does end up with RN, there is no reason why he couldn't fight guys from other promotional companies. There is no cold war anymore. Just because Cotto is possibly getting tied down again, doesn't mean TR or GBP will all of a sudden refuse to work with him.

Steve Kim is a Top Rank paid journalist. Back in his maxboxing days, I'll never forget it, he did a podcast after the Margarito II fight and said I'd like to see this Cotto with Manny. And what happened... Cotto got offered a Manny fight for the same money, he turned it down and took Floyd. The podcast before the Floyd fight? Steve Kim was saying what a wipeout it would be, the Margarito fight was smoke and mirrors...

I'm not hating on the guy, I'd say nice things about products and people if they paid me to as well. But I wouldn't expect people to take what I say as unbiased reporting... just about everything he says is Bob Arum approved first.

I am a boxing fan that calls it like I see it. He is pro Bob Arum/Top Rank fighters. To him they can do no wrong and they pay him with his 15 minutes of fame in their preview shows before big PPV and with press VIP passes/Scoops/interviews. He is no better than Doug Fischer and he has an agenda.

I dont like the name of the article and I dont like how it was writen. It makes Cotto look like an ungratefull SOB that betrayed the hand that feeds him but their is no mention of the bull **** he had to take with Top Rank.

Bingo! and he trashed Floyd Mayweather after he left Bob Arum and made him look like a coward ever since, he promotes Felix Verdejo on his twitter account like other but do you think he would do that if he was a Haymon fighter? Hell no. The dude has his sources but all those sources come from Top Rank. Why do you think he is the first guy to get a quote from Todd on this situation? He tells the fans what Bob wants them to hear.

I guess Roc Nation is thinking long term? To get Cotto the guranteed must be huge but I guess they think they can make it back in the long run? If they can make Cotto-Canelo and then Cotto-Mayweather i guess they can get back some money and build for the future. If they just made Cotto give up his freedom they can show that to more fighters and look legitimate. They had Ward but Ward is nowhere near the star Cotto is so they can now go to some 18 year old amateur phenom or some 30 year old boxing star and say "hey we got Cotto on our stable of fighters you want to join?"

They may be thinking long term, but Cotto isn't necessarily going to be around for the long-term, and over-spending isn't a long-term business plan.

Roc Nation clearly seems like they're willing to spend a lot of money to make a big splash in the sport (with Quillin)...and maybe cut a corner or two (like they tried with Gary Shaw).

So we'll have to see what the numbers are here, and determine whether the money they're giving Cotto looks like a good investment or not.
