Is Cotto Overrated?

Personally(lol), I think he's a solid fighter. Seriously, I do. And I've totally rooted for him in some fights. But if I may be honest, I think if you look at his diehard, pom-pom waving fanatics, they're almost EXCLUSIVELY Puerto Rican. Don't think too many ppl outside of that community ride as hard for him. If you notice, 90% of the guys here who threw on capes have him as their sig or avi or are PR. I guess that's kind of expected though.

To sum it up, if Cotto wasn't Puerto Rican he wouldn't be as popular as he is today. I honestly believe that. To me, it's like a fact lol.

And if he wasn't Puerto Rican, the PR guys in this thread wouldn't give 2 shyts about him and he would only be in about 3 or 4 Avi's max in all of NSB. Call me racist or whatever but I'm totally being honest and would love for someone to prove me wrong or counter my argument. With that said, I'm late to work! Check in later!

he's A- fighter, with solid win in his resume Shane, judah, martinez, quintana, margarita. he's borderline HOF and with one more solid win (GGG, canelo) he can be first ballot HOF.

i want some of you lemmings that say that he's overrated by some bori's to cite some examples of his being overrated. i've seen some dumb stuff written by fan-boys of his but like the guy above me stated, i've never seen anyone say he's better than pac, may, hops, klits and some others. he's fought valiantly and has out performed most of his peers. his longevity, dedication along with his stoic and focused demeanor give not only pr fans someone to root for but fans around the world who like rooting for a guy who puts in an honest days work.

It was a great win, what are you talking about? You're obviously a newcomer into boxing, Mosley 8 years ago was a P4P top 10 fighter.

they forget that cotto vs mosley was to see he would fight the top guy at welterweight... floyd... cotto beat mosley becoming the second best welterweight... then floyd retired and the rest is history

Very good fighter.

Grossly overrated by a few of his fans, but still a very good fighter.

A belt holder in 4 weight classes, though he has never been the man in any given division.

His lineal MW title holds no relevance unless he proves me (and everybody else) wrong by fighting GGG.

In my opinion at 160 is going to get beat up as soon as he fights any top 10 MW with two good legs.

Really.... after cotto beat mosley and floyd retired cotto was the top welterweight until the margacheat fight who needed plasters to beat him.

Cotto has lost almost all of his major fights, except the Sergio Matinez fight.
Winning one major fight with a fighter that was not at a 100% that's not make you a HOF, now if he fights with top level fighter in his weight class(legit fights) not the fights that are been mentioned like Rios or Tim B.. His manager turned down Lara or just pick top level fighters at 154 - 160 where cotto is campaigning.
