Aside from the NBC primetime fights, Haymon isn't doing anything that isn't already being done. Its reported that he will also have fights featured on ESPN and Spike. Well that's already being done with fights taking place on networks such as Fox sports 1 and ESPN. Nothing groundbreaking there.

He needs to focus on the NBC primetime slots and put on some action packed fights that will draw huge fan interests. Remember, if viewership is low, that means less sponsors and less money. I guess this is why they're making Haymon pay for his own dates. They want him to prove himself before they invest in him. This can either go one of two ways. It can either fail miserably or take off. Lets wait and see...

Yes he has a deep roster, but of who? This sport thrives off of stars. Not some random guy from some obscure town in Mexico with the last name of Ortiz or Garcia.

If I'm some casual fan flicking through the channels and happen to stumble across one of these cards, I might tune in to see how good a fight it is. If after 2 or so rounds I don't see any action and instead just 2 guys jabbing and pawing at one another, I'm changing the channel. This is what Haymon needs to prevent. He needs action and entertainment to draw interest.

He doesn't have a PPV stars but he has a roster of fighters who are known in boxing and generate good ratings on ShowTime.

Broner, Garcia, Mares, Guerrero, Chavez Jr., etc. all generate good ratings.

These guys yes. But he has almost 200 fighters. Even the most diehard of boxing fans here cant even name half of them.

Haymon should be focusing on quality more so than quantity.

Those fighters won't be headlining on NBC. They will be on FS1, Spike TV, ESPN or wherever else.

Errol Spence on Friday Night Fights would be a great platform to build up his name and resume for example. And myself personally, I would love to see quality fighters on ESPN like Errol Spence rather than the club fighters and washed up vets like Sergio Mora and Jermain Taylor that they have been showcasing recently.

I would disagree but Oscar has a past of saying everything is fine and dandy when it isn't. Oscar could be on his front lawn with his house burning down in the background and smile and say everything is all right.

The problem with that is Haymon is taking the approach of building his fighter's profiles like he would a singer or musical group. The more exposure they get on Free TV will make them more popular to the casual fans. Those that shine the brightest will appear on Showtime and hopefully the only PPV fights will be mega fights between 2 high profile combatants.

Like him or not Haymon has a plan and a proven track record of making mega stars.

Also did anybody pick up on Oscar saying they would continue to work with HBO but made no mention of working with Showtime?
GBP and TR better merge if they plan on remaining the top promotional companies in boxing cause it seems the minute either of them sign one fighter Haymon signs two. Plus if you're going to be truthful about the situation, Haymon advises the majority of the whose who in boxing. In addition, the promoters that have been getting shut out of time on HBO and other networks as well as being unable to sign premium fighters are now getting his business. So really it's a win win for everybody not with or named GBP and TR in my opinion.
Haymon doesn't really have a track record of making many "mega stars"....especially ones that didn't get a significant post-DLH bump in their popularity.

Many of Haymon's "stars" were built on HBO/SHO money and television dates.

He doesn't have a lot of ppv stars, and he doesn't have that many ticket sellers...and it takes both to be a mega star.

As for the notion that exposure will automatically lead to tv/ppv stardom, why has the UFC seen their ppv numbers and tv ratings both drop in the 3+ years they've been doing UFC on FOX?

FS1, Spike, NBC Sports don't exactly do huge ratings numbers.

Even ESPN doesn't usually do that big of numbers.

Stiverne-Arreola II did 0.8 overnight and those were the biggest ratings boxing's had on ESPN in a decade.

                    Klitschko-Leapai did awful numbers.

You have to take into consideration the number of homes those networks are in. ESPN is in like 4 time the homes HBO/SHO are. FS1 and NBCSPorts like twice the number.
