  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Gives Take on The Al Haymon Takeover

So is Oscar De La Hoya, who's company is one of the leading promoters in the sport of boxing, particularly concerned about what looks to be a hostile takeover of the business by Al Haymon, who is procuring one network after another to showcase his burgeoning roster of fighters?

Having dates - big and small - is paramount to any company and as of now, Haymon is grabbing more than the lion's share of them. Haymon's company, Haymon Boxing, recently announced television deals with NBC and Spike TV, and the powerful manager/adviser has closed in on Telemundo and is reportedly in talks with CBS Sports, BET and ESPN - and he also has a close relationship with Showtime.

Basically Oscar is saying Golden Boy is in good straights. Hoping to push for two cards a month on FS1 and continuing their relationship with HBO. He acknowledges Al Haymon's, what were perceiving, attempt to takeover boxing. Oscar is right about the risky move Haymon has taken. Playing chess with boxing politics, burning bridges along the way, and all at the same time ensuring your superstars and prospects a bright future? Golden Boy has taken a less is more tactic to promoting and focuses on the general well being and future of those signed with them. Al Haymon just can't have his cake and eat it too.

Meh, Haymon is taking over and the balance of power and pay will work itself out. At some point so many relevant fighters will be with Haymon that relevant fighters not with Haymon will be irrelevant.

Haymons style of matchmaking peaked with mayweather, there wont be another one like that, fans just wont buy the bull****. They tried it with broner it blew up. I predict this haymon thing will have its ups and downs but it will flame out quickly. The harder they come the harder they fall. .

i understand people hate haymon i do but honestly be honest with yourselves are u not tired of boxing with tr and gbp in charge? i mean they did the whole pr campaign that the cold war is over and were still waiting for them to make a card together besides the one or 2 that was forced. When was that over a year ago or more? that right there shows how full of **** the 2 promotions are.

They're both garbage and are running out of good prime fighters. It's baffling to me how people want to hold onto the old and the common. Kind of how like when Showtime was destroying HBO in 2013 and people started hating on Showtime for it.

If Haymons bad for the sport TR and GBP are the devil itself.

The days of Top Rank and Golden Boy being boxing's two-headed monster are over.

With Haymon going the route of working to control the vast majority of TV dates, the onus is now on promoters actually promoting shows.

That means that DiBella, Goosen, Sampson Boxing, Warriors Boxing, GYM, Matchroom and a host of other promoters (who didn't get TV opportunities in the TR/GBP dichotomy) will now be getting TV opportunities across multiple channels.

Let TR/GBP/Main Events/K2 battle over the 15 HBO dates, lol.

Headline on here in five years: Haymon sells company and fighters contracts. Cashes out.

People are under some sort of belief this isn't about creating a big company and then unloading it. If that wasn't the case he'd be using his own money which has been publicly disclosed that he isn't. You build a brand and sell it move on to the next venture. I hope Floyd is getting a cut of the company because if it wasn't for him none of this would've been possible for Haymon. Man puts on two decent cards on his own (that haven't happened yet) and somehow it makes up for his open baby sitting of his fighters the last two years. People up here talking about him like he's a savior when ya'll been spoonfed bulllshhh bouts since 2012.
