Is Mathysse a good enough counter puncher to make a fight with Pacquiao interesting?

Tim Bradley had Pacman hula dancing.

Lucas has more power than Brad and JMM...is younger..and throws hellish right hands.

Pac's fall-in face first style gets him KTFO again.

He will pepper him to death and outbox him to a one sided decision. Matthysse brings nothing to the table to beat Pacquaio his style is perfect for him.

He has a punchers chance. That's it.
        Pretty much this.

Pac hasn't been in with a genuine puncher since the roided version of Marquez.

Rios actually didn't try to slug it out like he usually does. His whole gameplan was cover up and then to fight in bursts to try to catch Pacquiao but Pac was far too quick for Rios who was slow of hand and foot.

Just to be clear, I wasn't saying he'll necessarily go toe to toe in terms of standing in front of his opponent, just that cutting off the ring isn't something that'll be required. Pacquiao has great movement but it's mostly lateral and he does get hit a fair bit by most of his opponents, he's not that hard to find.

I favor Pacquiao too but I see it being a firefight, with every chance he gets caught with something big. Exciting match-up.
I get where you're coming from, and yeah, Pac's not impossible to hit, but like you said, he hasn't been in there with a scary puncher in a while, so hes not gonna just stand and **** with the guy. And Lucas is nowhere near Cotto's level of being in position to land on Pac. This is an easy fight for Pac. Maybe not easy, but stylistically he's got it in the bag.

I think what Cotto was doing in the first couple of rounds v Pac is quite similar to how Matthysse comes forward with the high guard up (e.g. v Garcia).

What Dan was describing was essentially a Rios scenario, but that was uncharacteristic of Rios, normally he would have fought like Hatton and gone for it (probably have got stopped), but that night he fought more like Clottey. I don't see Matthysse fighting like that, I think it his approach will be more akin to Cotto's.

Just my opinion, Lucas might not even beat Provo so it could turn out to be forever a fantasy fight.

Watch the way Cotto moves his feet though. He has a hop and a skip to him that Lucas doesn't. Lucas is a linear fighter, and doesn't really create angles.

I don't think Lucas comes at PAC the same way he normally does. Remember, he's a human being. He's not literally terminator. He's gonna train to be more responsible in there, so he doesn't get embarrassed.

PAC would love for him to come at him like that. PAC abuses come forward styles like that.

Think about what you just said. Rios fought different, and didn't come to kill. Why is Lucas so much tougher and brave than Rios? Rios is one of the craziest fighters out there.

If you look though, he was responsible against Garcia. He can box, underrated in that respect.

Pac does like come-forward fighters, but he dominates runners too, he's an atg, it's going to be tough for an opponent whatever style they bring.

Rios was following a gameplan, it was smart one too but he didn't have the power to land the killer blow.

Good points. You gotta put smart money on PAC though, and realize how bad of a matchup Manny is for Lucas.
