Is Mathysse a good enough counter puncher to make a fight with Pacquiao interesting?

He is, don't let the Judah/Alexander fights fool you, that was Lucas boxing for points assuming he would get a fair shake on the cards. He doesn't fight like that any more, he goes for the kill because he needs a KO and has fast feet and no problems cutting off a ring.

As to Pac-Rios, Matthysse isn't a plodding static target like Rios told to cover up by Garcia, when hit a few times clean Matthysse will go to war and so will Pacquiao. From there anything can happen.

I was thinking about the Peterson fight. He landed, but he was extending himself a lot. The thing that helped him out was, Peterson doesn't have power, and he was scared before the fight. He didn't want to be near Lucas, even if a counter opportunity was right there.

I just don't see Pacquiao going to war with him, and Lucas isn't a plodder, but his foot work is very limited. Think about it. Pacquiao didn't want to slug it out with Rios, he's not going to with Lucas.

Hey, I could totally be wrong, and they go toe to toe, but Manny's too smart, and too quick to do that with Lucas.

Yeah Pacquaio isn't going to stand infront of Matthysse. He doesn't stand infront of anyone.

He will pepper him to death and outbox him to a one sided decision. Matthysse brings nothing to the table to beat Pacquaio his style is perfect for him.

He has a punchers chance. That's it.

When Pac gets pressured or caught he fires back with combinations, taking the Cotto or Margarito fights as an example. I see a Matthysse approach being similar to theirs, Pac will land far more but will also be open to getting caught with something big himself and Lucas hits harder than those guys (for the weight). Pac hasn't been in with a genuine puncher since the roided version of Marquez.

Rios actually didn't try to slug it out like he usually does. His whole gameplan was cover up and then to fight in bursts to try to catch Pacquiao but Pac was far too quick for Rios who was slow of hand and foot.

Just to be clear, I wasn't saying he'll necessarily go toe to toe in terms of standing in front of his opponent, just that cutting off the ring isn't something that'll be required. Pacquiao has great movement but it's mostly lateral and he does get hit a fair bit by most of his opponents, he's not that hard to find.

I favor Pacquiao too but I see it being a firefight, with every chance he gets caught with something big. Exciting match-up.

Matthysse isn't a good enough power puncher, doesn't have a good enough chin and doesn't like pressure, Pacman eats him up, like he does with everyone at 140lb.

As if Pac would go near a fighter like that.
