he really isnt. you will hear a bunch of arguments claiming he is, but none of their reasoning makes sense. you can put both of them up against the same fighter, no matter who it is, and the canelo fight will sell more. no one would actually believe that if martinez would have fought canelo instead of cotto, that they would have sold less than 350k.

It's funny because I didnt really give it any thought and just went along with Cotto being the A-side. Then I really thought about it and said...."wait, but why?" He's not a bigger draw than Canelo. I'd say their drawing power is about equal with the edge going to Canelo due to his massive Mexican following.

Canelo/Cotto in Vegas for Cinco de mayo wknd is bigger and generates more money than Cotto/Canelo in NYC for Puerto Rican wknd

Cotto invented "A-SIDE" nobody was using that term before he started using it.

Alvarez is nothing but a B-SIDE scrub compared to Miguel Cotto.

yeah, you have to take into account that the large majority of posters are more fan boy than boxing fan. their love, or hate, for a fighter is the most important thing in determining how they feel about any given situation. who they love today, may very well turn into who they hate, depending on how that person relates to their crush. their minds and emotions change with the direction of the wind.

Cotto is the A side, he is the lineal middleweight champion of the world and holds more name recognition in boxing. However, the financial side of things are much tighter, Canelo is a guy who was part of one of the biggest boxing PPVs of all time.
However, A side or not, Cotto skipping out on the fight or hanging Canelo to dry and doing a back door deal with Mayweather is not excused by his "A side" power.

I think it has more to do with Cotto being better known to casual fans.. He's been around longer on the top stage and has better name recognition, if you ask random casuals I would bet more know Cotto than Canelo. Does that make him the A-side? Don't know, don't really care, just make the damn fight!

-Both fought Trout. Cotto got completely outboxed while Canelo won a close decision.

-Both fought Floyd and lost albeit Cotto put up a better fight. Nonetheless a loss is a loss.

                    -Both fought and beat Mosley.

                    -Canelo's biggest win....Erislandy Lara

-Cotto's biggest win......I'd say Mosley as Margarito came into that fight with 1 good eye and Martinez had a leg like baby bambi.

Floyd/Alvarez did almost a mil more buys than Floyd/Cotto.

So I ask again.....What makes Cotto feel that he can call all the shots here? As I see it, both are about equal as far as draw and star appeal for their own reasons.
So Canelo's best win is Lara, a fight the he half of the ppl here thinks he lost

The Trout fight was another fight that could had gone either way

He isn't, and there isn't a rational, logical argument to support the notion that he is. There are no A-side or B-sides in this matchup; the two of them fighting one another is the real drawing card here. Neither is an 'opponent' for the other.

Cotto and his fans know that it's the end of the line after he gets pummeled by Alvarez. Cotto isn't truly convinced he'll beat Alvarez and is blatantly holding out for a pointless rematch with Mayweather, as a loss to Mayweather doesn't hurt him or his earning potential.
