why are cotto fans still talking as if the date is an issue? oscar already said if floyd/pac gets made then they will move the date, so what harm is there is signing the contract right now?

if cotto is holding out because he thinks he can get the floyd fight i would argue a canelo fight makes more sense. he will get a **** load of money + has a higher chance of winning. then he can set up a big september fight against floyd if he beats canelo.

even if he loses to canelo but the fight is close u best believe mexicans/ricans will want to see that **** again.

So what's wrong with waiting until May/Pac gets figured out? That's all Cotto is doing, like you say what if they do fight, what's the point of signing a contract for May 2nd then? You would either be forced to go up against it or have to go through negotiations all over again for the new date. The fight would also move your training camp out 4 weeks, what if they start camp AND THEN Floyd/Pac somehow gets done? That's just dumb thinking, again just wait until it's figured out and that's all Cotto is doing. Canelo is the one who got scared and pulled out not the other way around.

first of all, Oscar, Canelo and Gaby have all been quoted as saying IF the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight gets made they'd be willing to move the date. Again a big IF. In the mean time they were wanting to negotiate a big fight on one of the biggest boxing weekends of the year where it would be profitable for both Cotto and Canelo.

You say they should have waited to see what Mayweather/Pac do, but why would anyone want to wait for a fight that in 5 years still hasn't been made?

Secondly if Cotto has wanted the June date from the very beginning why has his advisor said they're negotiating for a fight in May? Why not from the very beginning have said they wanted the fight in June?

Cotto hasn't cancelled the fight or threaten to, he's just saying I'll wait to sign it after May/Pac gets resolved. Where is the diva attitude in that? Canelo might have some personal beef with Mayweather and willing to sacrifice money in order to slightly bring down Mayweathers numbers. Cotto just wants to maximize his money, going up against Floyd doesn't do that. Even if they get more buys than Mayweather they could have made more if they were the only fight on that night.

They probably do. Canelo refuses to move off the date man, not the promoters. Canelo has OPENLY stated he will ONLY move off that date for one fight. Cotto is basically saying I'll fight you on ANY night, even May 2nd in Canelo's hometown unless... May/Pac happens. Canelo is the one who refuses to move up and the talks with May/Pac are taking forever, that's not Cottos fault.

Cotto has a reputation of turning into a princess during negotiations where he is the A-side. I remember Martinez saying that Cotto was constantly threatening to cancel the fight unless every single demand was met.
