Like a Frankie Gomez. A guy with good fundamentals, that has enough power to get people's respect, acurate, good workrate with a good gas tank. Tries his best to be intelligent while trying not to put the crowd to sleep. Mexican Americans are starting to get some amateur bouts and good training and are beginning to become more like boxer punchers. I like brawlers too, but they have to be a little more intelligent like Orlando Salido. Canelo just looks more like a poor wanna-be boxer to me. Overrated power, flat-footed, slow, can't think in the ring or adjust, terrible cardio and workrate. He's like the antithesis to the mexican fighter lol. Other mexicans try to make it a fight even in defeat. Canelo laid one of the biggest eggs in the Mayweather fight. Boring and didn't even try to make it into a fight.

I love watching Wilder. He's the only reason I watch the heavies lately. All the other heavies are either fat and out of shape or boring. BOMB SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!

I still disagree about him being a boring fighter, but you made some fair points, I can understand where you are coming from especially the "antithesis to the mexican fighter" logic. He does need to be more aggressive, and to improve his workrate.

Its much easier to ridicule the people that are aware of racism than to come out and admit it.

And to keep it in the realm of boxing, most of the popular black boxers in the history of the sport were normally 5 to 6 times better than the competition. Kind of like Prime LeBron in the NBA.

You HAVE to recognize someone's talents when they're that good (see Jon Jones in UFC, Floyd Mayweather in boxing and Tiger Woods in golf).

On the other hand, AVERAGE white boxers mostly have strong fan bases and popularity without being leaps and bounds better than their peers (Ex. CARL FROCH, KESSLER, HATTON, SPADAFORA, GATTI, WARD, etc...).

Even lighter toned Mexicans like Canelo get a pass.

Lets be honest... Sugar Shane Mosley was so good in his prime that HBO wouldn't even sanction a fight between he and Arturo Gatti or Mickey Ward when they had the chance to. I remember HBO flat out telling Mosley they wouldn't allow him to fight Gatti or WArd on their network.

Yet everytime you turn around HBO is airing some special on the greatness of Ward and Gatti.

Lastly, and I said this before, if Deonatay Wilder's last name was MCGREGOR, WILOVKIN or WILZAGHE he'd have a fanbase larger than prime Ricky Hatton had.

Not complaining either... just pointing out the reality of the situation.

Americans won't jump on the band wagon of an American fighter like we see Asians, Euros, or Latinos, etc. just because someone is American, we don't support them, that's the primary difference.

The most popular American boxers are latino for a reason, the large latino populations in the US.

Mayweather as much money as he's making isn't even popular, he got rich off of how much people hate him, $40 mill+ a fight because so many people want to see him lose that 0. Pure hatred has made this man rich lol. If you watch practically every one of his fights the entire crowd is rooting for the other fighter lol.

Skin color also has a lot to do with it. Look at Canelo, this guy has millions of fans because of it lmao. And yes, racism is alive and well in MX, they hate dark skinned people. If Canelo looked like Marquez we wouldn't know who this guy was.
I have to disagree with you about Mayweather as far as hatred of him relating to race, if that's what you're saying. Mayweather had made himself an anti-hero from early on in his career, and has just gotten worse with age. At first, he was kind of meek and soft-spoken, then he began calling himself "Pretty Boy Floyd". It got much worse for him after he began calling himself "Money", & throwing cash around. Now he calls himself "TBE", which is quite arrogant. Fight fans see that while he is talented, his tactics of cherry-picking, grabbing, running & holding, along with apparent favoritism from refs and judges makes him far from the best. The overt arrogance, the prima-donna attitude & previous excuses & refusal to fight Pacquiao really put fans' hatred of him at a peak. Throw in the domestic violence allegations and conviction, supporting Ray Rice, along with allegations of abusing his employees and even up-and-coming fighters for good measure. One can see how very easy it is to dislike & yes, even hate this man, without regard to his race or skin color.

I don't know maybe it's just me, but I find him extremely boring. Mexico has better fighters IMO that don't get the support he does, and his looks have plenty to do with it. I've heard many mexicans attack Mikey Garcia just because of how he looks. Mexico is currently landlocked in a struggle for "stars". A bit ago I heard on a spanish show some guy saying "mexican boxing is a corpse, what do we have canelo? chavez jr?" Like there aren't any better fighters they have to be "stars" Chavez jr has his name and Canelo has his looks. Spanish shows are always bringing him on to talk about "how hot he is" lol. I rather be a good fighter than a "star" but I guess that's just me.

Interesting take. It shows how our culture is focusing on percieved good looks even in the hurt game. And yes, Chavez's name carries him more than his talent. But if you notice, even though these three may be considered "stars" to some, pure boxing fans know better. The proof is in the pudding; a good or even great boxer has to win notable fights to get respect as a boxer. The chicks swooning over them may get them camera time on talk shows, but they'll never be known as great boxers because of their pretty faces or family name.

                      No I'm ***ing trolling.

Apparently you don't know the definition of a knock out in boxing.
