Beating Broner would have still been viewed as the bigger win by the wider public. Alexander has no real fanbase outside of his howetown.

But Khan's a much bigger name than Maidana.

Not everyone agrees, especially not right now, but I think Mayweather has wanted the Khan fight for years.

Khan actually has some leverage... Floyd is really only down to manny or khan as legit opponents, maybe cotto.. If khan walks away, floyd may have no opponent in May

That's pretty much it, Khan has to realise his value.

If Khan steps away and the Pac fight falls through again, Floyds only options are rematches or a move up for Danny, all those fights make him look a fool.

I think he would have fought him this year if he thought it was the best idea, but when Maidana essentially became Khan's equal with beating Broner it made the choice exceedingly simple. Fight Maidana then let Khan become more, because Maidana was never going to get bigger (w/o beating Floyd) and Khan had room to grow his star.

Honestly I think you have to say Floyd played that scenario correctly, when you look at that stuff. Fight Khan for Maidana numbers and then what or fight Miadana for those numbers then do Khan when that is bigger. Seems like a smart play to me, might be totally luck though who knows.
