Terence Crawford - fighter of the year?

I really can't see how Crawford deserves the award. Gamboa wasn't rightfully a ranked lightweight, he only had one fight in the division against an un-ranked opponent and he didn't look all the spectacular in that fight.

Burns was shot, we all know it. He looked terrible against Gonzales and Beltran. In both fights he barely threw punches. Just because Crawford went to Scotland to win beat doesn't change the fact that Burns just wasn't that good at that point.

Now for Beltran, he's a good fighter but no way in hell was he #2 lightweight. How could he be ranked over both Abril and Vasquez. It just boxing politics to move a lineal title to Crawford against the easiest opponent. No way anybody can justify Beltran being ranked over Vasquez and Abril.

Vasquez lost to Bey (officially). Who is your pick for FOTY?

One thing I would say is that you can talk down everyone's opponents, e.g. you could say it was an old Hopkins v Kovalev or criticise Algieri for being overrated or lucky to be in the position.

You're right Hopkins was old but I know he rightfully earned his #2 ranking by fighting ranked opponents in his division. We can all do the same to Algieri as well but he beat a ranked opponent in his division.

Vasquez was robbed, we all know it. Ring magazine, TRBR, and ESPN have all let fighters in the past keep their ranking when the fighter "lost" on the scorecards due to robbery.

Burns was a good win but the writing has been on the wall for long time. I don't know what's wrong with him but he just isn't the same. He doesn't throw punches at all anymore.

As for who I believe deserves FOTY, for me it has to be Gonzales, Manny, or Kovalev. This year has been overall weak but those are the guys that beat top competition this whole year and in dominating fashion.

I'd much rather watch Kovalev, but Crawford should be the clear winner here. His wins add up to more than beating a 49 y/o and two no hopers.

People are blind to pick Crawford. This is coming from someone that actually likes him but I'm being realistic. He doesn't deserve it.

Crawford should be in the discussion, but it isn't clear cut. Burns and Beltran really shouldn't be rated in the top 5 of a healthy division. 135 is just that weak. Gamboa was coming up in weight and is easily the best win on Crawford's record.
