I'm not much of a fan of Crawford, but he had 3 good wins.

    1. Crawford
    2. Pacquiao
    3. Kovalev

I'm sure there's some little guy who probably deserves it more (Gonzalez, Inoue?) but boxing looks past these guys for awards like this.

      Pacquiao?

For beating a guy he already beat convincingly + Algieri?

      No thanks.

Bradley had wins over Marquez and Provodnikov since that, he was ranked #3 PFP, ranked #1 at WW, and many were picking him to win but Pac beat him in his own backyard. It was one of the best wins of the year by any fighter.

Algieri was ranked #3 JWW, an undefeated world champion. He was dropped 6 times and shut out by little Pacquiao.

You'll struggle to find two wins against higher ranked fighters by any boxer in 2014.

          Good point regarding Bradley.

Algieri was a gimme', I don't care who says he was badass. He was just waaaaayyy too green. Not to mention the cw and the bad kd calls by the ref.

Imo, you weaken your case by mentioning Algieri.

I honestly don't buy into that. Yes he's a good little fighter, but by no means is he special enough to get FOTY in my opinion. Especially as the only good win.

I don't know why you would even mention Algieri, the fight was a complete joke. I don't care what artificial ranking Algieri had, he wasn't even in the top 15 this time last year.

I think it's a 2 man race between him and Kovalev

I really can't see how Crawford deserves the award. Gamboa wasn't rightfully a ranked lightweight, he only had one fight in the division against an un-ranked opponent and he didn't look all the spectacular in that fight.

Burns was shot, we all know it. He looked terrible against Gonzales and Beltran. In both fights he barely threw punches. Just because Crawford went to Scotland to win beat doesn't change the fact that Burns just wasn't that good at that point.

Now for Beltran, he's a good fighter but no way in hell was he #2 lightweight. How could he be ranked over both Abril and Vasquez. It just boxing politics to move a lineal title to Crawford against the easiest opponent. No way anybody can justify Beltran being ranked over Vasquez and Abril.

Well we're in agreement, because I voted Crawford lol.

On Algieri, I think the jury is really out on him for now. Pacquiao humiliated him, but he did beat Taylor better than Broner and some believe he beat Provo better than Bradley. If you put him in with Danny Garcia or an Adrien Broner, I couldn't say for sure that his constant movement wouldn't give them a lot of issues. Time will tell.

Well considering Beltran beat Burns quite convincingly who was then considered the #1 guy at lightweight I think you could easily make a case for that. Also, as he'd beaten Hank Lundy and a few other good fighters, he definitely deserved some recognition.

Gamboa was undefeated and undoubtedly a big talent.

And Burns, whilst he wasn't at his best, was still the champion and he did fight him in Scotland and put up a clinical performance.

All 3 very very good wins.

Haha, of course! Listen, it's a quality win. I just don't think it's enough. I probably wouldn't say Kovalev's win over hopkins was better, but it was close. I think Mayweather's two wins over Maidana is just about as good as Bradley + Algieri in all honesty.

I can't see Algieri doing much at 147 if he tries to move up. In fact, I'm pretty sure it ends in disaster for him. But he does have some skill I suppose. In terms of footwork.
