Comments Thread For: Rodriguez: Andre Ward Would Outbox Gennady Golovkin

I also said it here -- in fact that's no rocket science involved...Golovkin going straight into a fight with Ward at 168 would be crazy.
As I said in another thread, name one time when the two stand-out fighters of this era (Floyd & Pac) took a risk comparable to what Golovkin is being asked to do here?
He's not just being asked to step up and fight the best SMW in the world. He's being asked to step up and fight a guy who many would regard as the best fighter in the world if he was staying active.
Pac and Manny are universally regarded as ATGs, and not once in their careers have they taken a risk as significant as this one. The closest Floyd came was moving up to fight Castillo.
It's a great fight and I hope it will happen at some point, but no way am I going to bash Golovkin for not diving straight into it.
Anyway: Ward himself needs a tune up before fighting a top p4p fighter.Comment

Ggg wants no part of andre ward. Notice lately ggg been saying he likes the mexican style, slugging, bring engertainment, all this to try to discredit the slick boxer style. He may not be saying it directly like carl froch said and is saying about wards style but we get it ggg.Comment

He said Mexican style because he was fighting a Mexican in Southern California. And Mexicans are arguably the most important fanbase in the sport.Ggg wants no part of andre ward. ... Floyd and Bradley are "slicks"... Ward also holds a bigger range of assets: he's able to grapple, he's able to wrestle, he's able to headbutt till he actually ruins his opponent (as he did it to Kessler)...Ggg wants no part of andre ward. If Ward were to fight another fighter with more clout than him, we might see a ref who'll penalize Ward for excessive use of those tactics and force him to fight legit.
It's interesting that Golovkin has implemented wrestling into his training regime for years. We might find he's comfortable enough on the inside that Ward might prefer to stay on the outside and try and use his speed & length advantage. At any rate I don't expect Golovkin to panic when Ward's trying to maul him as some have suggested.
Given Golovkin's balance I don't think the clinch and turn tactic will be as effective against him as it was Kessler & Froch. Even then, Abraham was able to hold his ground with Ward by coming forward with a jab and even managed to stun Ward in the third. Pity that wasn't Abraham's natural style and he gassed by the fourth.Comment

More B/S! Golovkin fights @ 160Lb which is 8Lb lighter then Ward. Why should he have to go up to accommodate the inactive SOAB, Opp's sorry SOG!Comment

I don't have enough time right now to break up Ward's style. But, believe me, I've studied this guy for about 6 years -- he's one of the best in the business with what he does into the ring. (Even if I like Golovkin a lot...)If Ward were to fight another fighter with more clout than him, we might see a ref who'll penalize Ward for excessive use of those tactics and force him to fight legit.
