  • Sounds like he is really trying to talk them out of fighting on that date. Cotto vs. Canelo is a better fight than any fight Mayweather will have in May. Mayweather's biggest payday was with Canelo and his fight with Cotto was also a big one for him. He knows that fight will be huge and he may change his may fight date if Canelo fights Cotto on that date.

This is not even a discussion.

Vegas = Canelo, New York = Cotto. Canelo has a better chance at getting a gift no matter the venue I believe. But in New York, Cotto will at least have home court advantage with the crowd behind him. He will enter the ring as the man to beat.

If Cotto fights in Vegas, he'll enter the ring like he's the challenger. Cotto will be fighting HARD to bring the fight to New York. You watch.
This fight is going to be hell to negotiate. Ask Martinez how easy Cotto was at the table.

The Judges gave trout the decision he so richly deserved.

Cool thing about the Cotto and Hatton fans, they were by far the most fun fans to be with at a huge fight. They both come out in massive numbers and both fan bases bring all of these instruments and drums and sing all of these songs that they all seem to know.
The problem is the mathematics of population. They cannot beat the math.

When you saw all those Cotto and Hatton fans, that was because Hatton and Cotto weren't going up against a superstar homegrown Mexican. If Canelo fought Hatton, when he was the man, over in the UK, the venue will be packed with Brits. Some Mexicans will travel to the UK to support Canelo, no doubt about it. But the mathematics of the Brits will drown and choke all the Mexicans. The mathematics cannot be beat.

              • Floyd is waaayyyyy too arrogant. Unless he fights Pac I don't see his numbers beating Cotto/Canelo. Probably not even with fighting Khan and a stacked undercard.

I think, the key factor here is that it's Las Vegas. If it were Los Angeles, I wouldn't expect too many Brits or Puerto Ricans or whoever to go out of their way to watch a boxing match.

But because it's Las Vegas, I think it's hard to predict which fan bases will show up in greater numbers even if LA is just a 4 hour drive away.

I know a lot of boxing fans who didn't bother going to Cowboys Stadium because the location was in Dallas. People were complaining about not knowing where to go drink, have fun or party when the fight was over.

Again, you have to go back to mathematics.

On the West Coast, from California to Nevada, the Mexican population is WAAAAAAAAY more than the Puerto Rican population. Meaning it will be WAAAAAAY more easier for Mexicans to fill up Vegas than it would be for the Puerto Ricans. That is their home turf. Easier for them to go there. And then Oscar and Canelo wants the fight to go down on CINCO DE MAYO of all dates? You think that's a coincidence?

If Cotto vs. Canelo were being held in Boston, the Puerto Ricans would DOMINATE the crowd. Because a drive from NYC to Boston is not so bad. The East Coast/Northeast is the home turf of the Puerto Ricans.

No way in hell Cotto agrees to Vegas unless they are going to give him most of the purse. You wait and see.

you guys are wasting too much time debating on the venue, the fight takes place where the money is, canelo-cotto could make 10mil in vegas, 5mil in NY or 5 mil in Texas... even if cotto wants to act like a diva i dont think he will be willing to pay the difference just to fight in NY, too much money to let go, i mean he fought margo at vegas for a reason...
