but he fights so much like a roundabout that the exchanges are almost non-existent and thus the punches landed are always very low
it's difficult to dominate a guy like that, there'd be about 10 rematches before it's settled if no ko
lara just needs to earn his place again by taking everyone out and making himself the only one availableComment

That has nothing to do with what I said. I don't care about styles. I live and die by rankings and Lara is still the #2 guy and Clottey is not ranked. The fight was close enough to warrant a rematch.but he fights so much like a roundabout that the exchanges are almost non-existent and thus the punches landed are always very low

If you want to talk about there being no demand for a rematch and it not making business sense, then I am 100% on board with you. I understand the business of boxing and accept that.
But don't try to sell me on Clottey being a more credible fight than a Lara rematch, just because Clottey will stand in the center of the ring with his hands up while Canelo unloads combinations on him whereas Lara will move, box and pick his shots. Styles don't determine rankings. Wins and losses do.
Angulo brought the fight to Lara and FORCED him to fight. There are ways to deal with movers. Lara didn't choose to stand and fight Angulo. If he could of ran around the ring untouched he would of. But El Perro didn't allow it. All of this talk about Lara running is nothing but excuses. Canelo looked bad and Oscar was not happy about it.Comment

Not true. You can fight effectively, and with plenty skill, aggression, and action - without being boo'd out of the arena like Lara was that night. Canelo does so almost every fight. You're a Cotto fan, as I am: so you should know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. So, your counter comment holds no weight.Based on your logic then boxing matches should be ONE round and one round only. Just get on the center of the ring and take turns punching each other until someone gets KTFO. That's all.
Boxing is a sport of hitting and avoiding to be hit. Its a game of offense and defense where you combine strategic maneuvering and positioning to set up the ambush with violence of action and aggression. That is what boxing is supposed to be. Not just two dudes punching each other until the other one goes down.
Did Lara did enough to win? IMHO, it could have gone either way, and he could showed more activity specially the last 2 rounds. If he would have done that (display of activity) he would have won.
Canelo should give him the rematch in Dec instead of fighting Clotty.
There's a difference between coming to fight, and trying to secure a win on the cards. That's the first flaw of the boxer who came to leave it up to the judges. But hey, you can't blame Lara for being who he is. Those type of merits and mind set, were installed in him way before he stepped foot in the ring with Canelo which is why he has draw'd with two lesser fighters and lost a close nod to Canelo. Stylistically, that's Lara and Shields fault and they got no one to blame but themselves.Comment

Well, if a rematch is needed then Lara better find a coach that will teach him how to go to war, or atleast mix in a little bit of going to war into his strategy. Because regardless of what you and I think, boxing is not going to let Caneko lose a stink, close fight on the cards. Too much money invested in him. Lara will have to take it to Canelo, and beat his a$$ if he wants that WIN.Comment

yeah nobody wants to see it again. lara shot himself in the foot, he should have known that to be sure of victory he'd really have to whoop him and either stop him or dominate the fight through twelve not run away all night long stinking the place up.Comment

I agree. The thing is lara is very skilled and is good at counter punching yet there were a LOT of opportunities against canelo where he never countered. He doesn't necessarily have to go to war but if he just lets his hands go and counters more decisively he could be very exciting. He just seems to choose not to. In pro boxing you can't try and coast like that. You have to be decisive with your counters or else your opponent won't be deterred from coming forward. Lara had all the tools to beat Canelo and the first 4 rounds showed that. But as canelo got more active he got more inactive and in my eyes lost a close fight to Canelo.Well, if a rematch is needed then Lara better find a coach that will teach him how to go to war, or atleast mix in a little bit of going to war into his strategy. The only thing Lara deserves is a match with Usain Bolt. Or to be on Dancing with the Stars.
Leave boxing to warriors, not runners.Comment
