Now you're just splitting hairs. He was A heavyweight champion < indisputable fact. Get over it. And he did beat a belt-holding champion, on foreign soil, it's not as if he was handed the vacant belt.

Some of you internet trolls make me laugh. Haye gave up 30 odd lbs to Wlad, and still went the distance, without ever looking troubled (Wlad actually looked more troubled than Haye did at any point in the contest, in rd 12). He's a very good fighter.

Again???? When was he ever the heavyweight champion? A couple guys named Klitschko are the only ones that can make that claim in the last decade.

No, I'm acknowledging the truth that today's boxing world tries to ignore.

Only one man is the champion of a division. Anyone else with a belt is just a beltholder, they aren't middleweight champion or heavyweight champion or welterweight champion. Haye was just a beltholder, not heavyweight champion.

Lots of very good fighters aren't champion. Manny Pacquiao is an ATG, but he isn't welterweight champion. Golovkin is the best middleweight, but he isn't middleweight champion.

It is a bit disputable seeing as Valuev lost the WBA title to Ruslan Chagaev.

Gaye was one of the paperiest heavyweight titlists in boxing history.

I suspected it was a play for the WBC title which it probably is but I didn't see the split from Booth and the Al Haymon wildcard coming.
He's not working with Adam Booth?

                Fuck that.

According to your logic, there isn't a single world champion in present day boxing, because no one man holds all the belts in any division. And you can't get around that by saying the best beltholder is the champ. GGG has 2 belts at middleweight and, according to you, is the best in that division, but not the world champion.
If you are in fact saying that you don't believe there any world champions at all right now, then fair enough, that's a valid point of view. But it would mean that there hasn't been a world heavyweight champ since Lewis retired and that neither of the Klitschko brothers were ever world champs, they were both just beltholders, the same as Haye.
