So instead of waiting a year and continue to build on HBO, GBP wants to make an unnecessary power play that will lose everyone money?

Dont care how much they get but as a business man this is just dumb to me

He will probably get 1 this year and he should probably shoot for September that would be the better date and sets his up on that time frame going forward.

Canelo could say he will take his show on the road but Vegas is essentially a one horse town in the fight game so I don't think Canelo and Oscar can just bully their way in at the moment.

It is good to stake that claim though because it forces some kind of deal as MGM will want to keep both sides happy and should net them one of the dates without having to cut all kinds of throats.

To casuals its just a runners up, 2nd rated matchup which is why both guys just had huge fights that couldn't do 400k. Floyd may fight Pac but it has nothing to do with them. I bet anything that a Khan fight out sells them head to head because the casuals will always go with a Floyd or Pac fight over there son's
Who gives a **** it it outsells. The plan is to go head to head to take down ShowTime and make them lose money. If the PPVs go head to head both will suffer but HBO would lose less.

The move doesn't just **** with Floyd though. It ****s with Pacquaio as well. If Team Alvarez is firm on their stance, and Team Mayweather decides to fight earlier in April, where does that leave Team Pacquaio?

Pacquaio will be fighting again too early next year. Let's say both Pacquaio and Mayweather fight before Canelo. It will guarantee that the Canelo fight, if PPV, does poorly.

I like his bravado but I still funny think he's earned it. He lost to May, he had eh numbers afterwards. I know what he's doing and acknowledge it, but why? Floyd's 2 fights away, maybe 3, from going away. Most athletes get the torch passed to them, he's trying to take it after his poor performance vs Floyd. That kinda rubs me the wrong way. Gee has a good decade+ left in him. Hell, even a possible rematch with Floyd if he wanted. idk. I'm thinking and typing at the same time

Showtime made a huge power move signing Mayweather and then having Cotto Canelo Hopkins Garcia Broner and much more all switching to Showtime. It was a huge power move and really only left HBO with Pacquiao and GGG as their big fighters. It appeared Showtime was about to become the king of boxing for the next decade.....oh how the times have changed.

HBO has now brought back Canelo on a long term deal along with previously getting Cotto back to HBO as well as Hopkins. They now have 3 of the top 4 PPV attractions in Pacquiao Canelo and Cotto. Showtime is left with Mayweather as top PPV attraction, Albeit the number 1 ppv star.

The power move by Showtime lasted less than 2 years and I for one am happy just because I prefer HBO commentators to Showtime who really seem to have a mass bias towards Mayweather whereas HBO seems to call it like it is unbiased towards fighters on their cards.

The Mayweather Showtime Richard Shaefer Al haymen super power play for boxing looked like it was going to be unstoppable. Delahoya has put a huge wrench in that plan and has now brought over several stars back to HBO.

And if Pacquiao Mayweather actually happens, it looks like it will happen with both HBO and Showtime involved so that's another huge win for HBO as they would then again for the night have the biggest ppv star and the biggest fight in history back on their network.

The stars have fallen in HBO's favor.

If it was just the casuals that run ppv then why are we having this debate about who's going to have their ppv's on Mexican holidays?

What connection does Floyd Mayweather have to Cinco De Mayo or Mexican Indepdence Day?

Canelo has only headlined one ppv on a Mexican holiday, and it broke all of the records. His other ppv dates have NOT been on those dates. If he fought on those dates he would inherently get more buys than his non-holiday ppvs. Him vs. Cotto could sell 1.5.

Chavez jr-serg and canelo-Lopez were 4 blocks away from each other.. Some competitior to MGM would gladly host canelo-cotto

Canelo just ethered Floyd's, Showtime's, and Haymon's plans for those dates.

                      Good stuff
