I heard 2 fight deal - $7 mil for GGG then either $5 or $10 mil for his next depending on whether he won or lost - didn't hear about any time extension though.

Or he coulda fought Golovkin for $2 mil + PPV share (estimated 1.5 - 2 mil) so say $3.5 mil, without the extension - still, hardly a bum deal. His highest purse to date was $3 mil against Maravilla (who got $1.4mil) and his star can hardly be said to have risen since then

Sounds like the same kinda deal with Froch, cept of course Froch would want a bigger share than GGG.

It's not a particularly pleasant aspect of the sport, but you can understand promoters' wanting to hang on to their moneymakers.

Given that he was guaranteed $12 mil - $17 mil for 2 fights (ie a minimum of double his best ever purse in each on average) it's hardly like Arum was offering to bend him over. And this on the back of not particularly inspiring performances against journeyman Vera.

Yea but the extension isnt anything exciting. Chavez jr had been wanting to be a free agent for a while.

Typically when it comes to promoters asking their fighters to sign extensions I side with the promoter.
After all in most cases the promoter has invested lots of money, in some cases up to millions of dollars in building up their star, and only through getting an extension are they ever going to recoup the money they invested.

Having said that, Chavez Jr. is a completely different story. This is a guy who has already made up what ever money Arum invested in him and then some.

He should not have his hands tied, and forced to sign an extension for a fight.

This may be so. But rumors had it that Mayweather and Al Haymon were in Chavez ears. We obviously don't know the specifics and can only speculate, but if Chavez is turning down 7 million and 10 million dollar deals, one can only suspect he's getting better offers from the other side.

I'm with JR on this. Those 7-8 mils being offered was for a GGG fight in ppv. As a FA fighting GGG on ppv he would make at least 10-11 mils. Arum is a leech and will not give up jr without a fight

Chavez jr isn't the brightest crayon in the box. What promoter wants to invest money in promoting a Fighter without a contract? Especially one like Chavez. If he continues with his poor work ethic and dedication to the sport, after another loss or two he's done making the BIG money. It would be wise to have a contract with guaranteed minimums. He's not FMJ or Cotto...

He's already under contract. Blob "Rob" Arum is just holding his career hostage. Jr has made MILLIONS for ArScum and this is how Blob repays him, trying to ruin his career the way Goosen is icing Ward. Don't support these dictators, Turd.
