Yeah definitely, I'd say that comes about because he probably gets asked this type of stuff very often and he just finds it insulting and utterly absurd, but considering it was a huge sporting event worth millions upon millions, damn right he should feel offended. That's disgusting.
Who here does their job for free? No one. Even worse, who gets consistently asked to do something for free they have generally trained their whole lives for, likely gone to university for, practiced and spent more time practicing on skills than just about any accountant, lawyer, doctor etc?
Let's put it another way; what top well known professional boxer fights for free? Should they fight for free if they were offered a free ticket to some event when they would normally be payed very well for what they do? He's a well known artist, among the top looking at his resume.
Who here would feel insulted and offended if you had spent a lifetime on becoming an incredibly skilled practitioner of something and were often asked to do it for free, despite it being your career, job and livelihood?
This is a huge, and long standing pet peeve of everyone in the arts/music industry because it's rife across the board. Because there are so many amateur artists/musicians that have a day job and are willing to do these things for free, it undercuts the whole industry and the actual professionals, so people suddenly think it's ok to ask, sometimes even expect, the professionals to do things for free, or for 'exposure', a ticket etc. No one here works for free, especially if they have done so in the past spending many frustrating, hard years building themselves up to a point where they don't have to work for free.
This would be equally as disrespectful if Pacquiao or whoever else did this.
This guy probably makes a decent living off of his work already, so hats off to him for having the self respect to defend his peers and craft.Comment

It says the winner will be flown to Vegas, where their art will be shown at the MGM. It doesn't say anything about getting tickets for the fight.Comment

I have nothing against this contest in principle. It's possible there's people out there that can benefit from this. But soliciting established professionals to participate is insulting.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 08-13-2014, 01:50 AM.Comment

People thinking that an offer of a ticket to a sporting event being enough? You ever thought that maybe, just maybe, not everyone thinks like you and that this guy doesn't give a flying **** about going to a boxing show? Maybe he just wants to get paid for what he's been working his ass off his whole life for? Ever thought of that?Comment

tHANK YOU! This is what's frustrating about some of the posters here. They don't realize that Dan IS a professional and obviously makes a successful living out of this career. He is an established designer and obviously have an impressive resume in the field of graphic design. Yet idiots here continue to speak without educating themselves about Dan. It's obvious some of the posters here are just kids with no clue at all.Comment
