Ifs and Buts ... the statement is not necessarily true as in the awesome world of there only being 1 belt the sanctioning body would have incredible power and GGG as the dominant guy at the weight for a long time would have been mandated long ago and martinez forced to fight him(and been Ko'd) or relinquish the title. So really saying if there were one belt Cotto would have it is not a guarantee at all.

If the above scenario hadn't happened by now in the perfect one title per division world then there would be SERIOUS problems with the one title per division system and we'd still have paper champions all over the place.

the most likely scenario if there were one title per division is GGG would be the middleweight champ and Cotto would still be a welter.

Are you Peter Quillin? Because he looked really average to me in his last fight against a bum

Well , Cotto holds the lineal title, technically he is the champ.

With that said, i think more than a few MW's can steamroll Cotto (who started at jww). Time will tell , though I don't think Cotto vs GGG will be made.

Nor do I think it'd be competitive.

Mind listing which middleweights you think can "steamroll" Cotto? The division, other than Golovkin, is pretty weak. I think Cotto can even beat Quillin who had trouble with Rosado who is also someone Cotto can easily beat.

I would never, ever, ever say a bad word about Miguel Cotto again if he fought Golovkin. I can't imagine that happening, not with two super ultra mega fights to choose instead.

Somehow Golovkin will get blamed for getting passed over again, too. And people will say he needs to step up his competition even after he beats the **** out of Daniel Geale.

It's unrealistic to expect that any other MW titlist will get a shot at Cotto. I don't see the lineal belt being inherited by a current MW if it plays out like I think it will. The best chance we have of that is Canelo, who will eventually grow into the division and could give Cotto problems with the extra weight.

Meh. Martinez had no business in the ring with GGG.

Geale is a great fight, Soliman is available and he can always move up.

Geale will lose and then go fight Soliman for his title. I'm not sure what 3G does post-Geale.

I wish Quillin would grow a pair. Does he have a GBP contract?

I would love to know. Now more than ever, the MW division needs GGG/Quillin.
