And what stopped Joe from coming to fight Roy Jones when the fight mattered from 1997-2003?

Originally posted by Boxing Goat View PostAccording to history, you know that invisible entity that cannot be deleted or altered no matter how much you try, Joe didn't sign a contract as you said he did. Furthermore, Hopkins did turn down fights at the time and it may have been to get more money later but it's not like he was inactive all the way from 2002 to 2005 when the Delahoya fight took place.

Originally posted by Dirk Diggler UK View PostYeah he fought bums instead of facing Calzaghe or Jones or Toney. Calzaghe agreed to the fight, Hopkins didn't. So back to your original point - Calzaghe did try to make the Hopkins fight when they were both in their primes. Bottom line. Glad I could educate you. You're welcome. Debate over.
Hopkins would have been an idiot to take Showtimes 3m to fight Joe, who had not even agreed to anything yet, when he was fighting guys like Morrade Hakkar on HBO for more money.Last edited by Boxing Goat; 06-04-2014, 11:31 AM.

There was no debate in the first. It's back to things that happened in time that you cannot change. Joe stayed on that side of the 'pond' while ducking fights with Jones and Hopkins. Toney was probably not practical but you get the point.

interesting debate, but can we stop over hyping this "prime jones" lark, the dude was a ped taking ****, completely overated. Joe Calzaghe would have smashed him to peices like he did in 2008....

I know it will be hard for you but try.
And, I will admit that I was thinking of the Daniels fight where he made more on HBO. Either way, that's quite a step away from making the same money fighting Calzaghe, who was a much greater threat.
That said, Joe didn't agree to anything yet and there's no way to know if he would have actually came over for the fight anyways.
