Froch can't even win Lineal 168 title.
Calzaghe is a very good fighter. IMO the 36 year old Calzaghe who fought Hopkins and Jones and got knocked down by both, would school any version of Froch for 12 rounds. But as far as resume goes, Froch has challenged himself a lot more and along those challenges he several very good wins.

Calzaghe turned down fights against Pavlik, Dawson and Johnson to instead fight an old, shot Roy Jones. Meanwhile, old ass Hopkins accepted Pavlik's challenge and whooped him, something Calzaghe could have easily done IMO if he had just stepped up instead of being all "I'm no spring chicken, i'm old, Hopkins knocked me down, it's almost time to retire, Jones is a legend."

Bute sucks. I see that you have Skip Bayless as your avatar so I truly am not surprised that you think the Bute win was career defining.

Froch still has no win as good as the version of Kessler Calzaghe beat or Hopkins, and I doubt Froch beats Hopkins, even a 50 year old B-Hop. But the sheer amount of names on Froch's resume led him to surpass Calzaghe and his 3-4 good wins. Hopkins, Kessler, Bika, Lacy(the shock/upset value of it at the time makes it a good win) vs Pascal, Taylor, Kessler, Johnson, Bute, Groves, Abraham.

There is still one more fighter i'd like to see Froch fight to see how he would react to the style, that Calzaghe beat in his prime effortlessly, Sakio Bika.
Bute was a Bum. Andrade had him beat but the ref screwed him.

When has Ward fought outside of his home town?
          Carl Froch - New Jersey
          Darnell Boone - Oregon
          Andy Kolle - Connecticut
and some other names I never heard of.

Also, technically he did not fight Abraham or Rodriguez in his hometown. Home state yes, but you asked hometown, Abraham and Rodriguez were outside of Oakland.

If you put the best ever version of Calzaghe against the best ever version of Froch maybe Joe wins. Maybe.

But the Cobra has had the better career.

Who is Groves, and what makes him any better than the younger Reid that Calzaghe fought?

The Bute win is similar to the Lacy win in that it was a lot more impressive at the time.

Beating Hopkins and clearly beating Kessler still stands out to me compared to Froch having a couple more good wins. And I won't forget the Direll fight either, one I had Froch losing 8 rounds of.

These threads just show that he has not surpassed Calzaghe otherwise it wouldn't even be need to be mentioned.

Calzaghe last fought 6 years ago and after every Froch win gets talked about. If Froch had really surpassed Calzaghe then there would be no need to discuss it. Deep down everyone knows it, even the more ardent Froch fans. He will never surpass Joe unless he A) Beats Ward or B) Wins Lineal 175 title.

Calzaghe is all wrong for Froch. He would slap circles around him for most of 12 rounds.

I agree that Calzaghe did not test himself enough. He especially waited too late. Head to head though this is an easy one to break down.
