I dont know whether or not Showtime is losing money, but what the TS said is actually not ****** like some of you people are trying to make it seem. Its kind of like how Sony and Microsoft have always lost money for every PlayStation/Xbox unit sold, but make their profits on the software. I dont know if Thats the case for showtime, though.Comment

i generally agree with this. most businesses make very little money early on, or after they make massive changes.
who knows how many showtime subs they sell with this crap? we know that showtime is growing like a weed right now.
we also don' tknow what kind of sponsorship money they're getting. i'm sure they're not going hungry over there simply becasue floyd mayweather gets huge guarantees.
look at it this way:
five years ago, HBO was the top dog, and showtime didn't come close. today, showtime is generally considered to be a better network for boxing, and floyd mayweather is the main reason for that.Comment

there's another factor to consider here:
stealing floyd mayweather was extremely damaging to HBO. they sweating right now.Comment

If Showtime is trying to increase their viewership how come last year they only 1 fighted rated in the top 20, HBO had the other 19. The plan didn't work, but the fl*mo's are right, no one is in this to make money.Comment

There must be something else to the Floyd contract that we aren't privy to. For Showtime to think that hosting Mayweather PPV's will directly lead to more subcribers to their regular network is simply foolish. If he were fighting on regular Showime, that premise would make more sense.Espinoza - "This is all about attracting subscribers, and getting compelling, unique, noise-making programming," he says. "Floyd fits all of those objectives. He makes noise. There's no one in the world who doesn't know we have this deal in place. He is one of the most talked-about athletes in any sport, and he's exclusive to us." He's certainly unique."
Yeah Espinoza can say the deal brought the network brand awareness because we all know that Mayweather has the deal, but brand awareness isn't going to get you subscribers. Content gets you subscribers.Comment
