Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez on Dealing With Injuries, Constant Pain

I was thinking about that too, but didn't want to say anything...lol. That whole, "I can't even walk" thing still sounds weird. How can you do ANYTHING, much less train for a world title fight, when you are in so much pain, you can't even walk?
-------
I like to bet points on fights, but I'm not betting on this fight, cuz there are too many strange intangibles going on.
Going to be one hell of an interesting fight and outcome though.Last edited by jazluvr; 05-19-2014, 04:48 PM.Comment

I think any injury free athlete in their prime training 8 hard hours a day would be stiff and sore nevermind one that is in their late 30's having been out with serious injuries for a year.
It would be natural to be feeling tender training that hard for 8hours a day,6days a week.
Im pretty sure with enough rest he'l be fine, any training clip iv seen of Martinez he seems to be in good shape,I just seen a 20 min training clip of Martinez on youtube where he's doing squats etc, looks to be in good shape, still has fast hands etc,I cant post the link as Iv not reached 15 posts yet but if you search 'Sergio Martinez Preparing For Cotto Fight' you'l find it,the clip is about 20mins long and is entirely in Spanish but there's fairly good training footage of him.Last edited by muzzo; 05-19-2014, 05:00 PM.Comment

He said that somedays he couldn't even walk after training, It happens to me a few times and thats because I trained till I got nothing left.I was thinking about that too, but didn't want to say anything...lol. He is using the old lure thing tactic. Sergio has not been in that many wars, he started late in his carrer,s o his body it's holding up good.
You are telling me that you work out 8 hours a day 6 days a week with all of that pain? Please Sergio!
I still pick him to take Cotto apart, Cotto it's to small and he gets hit a lot for a guy that has a good sounded defense.....Sergio in 9 rds....Comment

It's the oldest game in the book and it's called the old "Bait and switch" trick..He is using the old lure thing tactic. Sergio has not been in that many wars, he started late in his carrer,s o his body it's holding up good.

You gotta believe Roach and Cotto are not falling for that BS and will now try to really see what he has left in those old knees with making Sergio move a lot, pivot and switch those legs from side to side..

Sergio has stated that the main reason Cotto and Roach took the fight has been the multiple injuries he has. It has been on public domain that Martinez victory against Chavez Jr. was very costly since he ended with a broken hand and a twisted ligament and he had surgery to repair them. He reappeared after few months against Murray and for many people Sergio was lucky as the judges erroneously got him a home decision and he went to surgery again. It may be the case that he reached the limit and he is just trying to collect the last check as a clear indication that he wouldn't be able to compete anymore and would end quitting after few rounds in any future fight.Comment
