  • Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez on Dealing With Injuries, Constant Pain

Question: Fighting with injuries (knee, elbow, wrist), how hard is it to prepare when your body hurts for any fight?

Sergio Martinez: It is not easy to prepare for a fight when you have some of the ailments that I have when preparing for a World Championship fight. I struggle with joint pains, knee pain, and shoulder pain. Without my physical therapist, Dr. Raquel Bordons, I would not be able to train today, and probably would’ve had to retire due to my injuries.

    Cmon Sergio!

I hope he isn't shopworn by fight night. I really do hope they aren't underestimating Cotto; Cotto looked against Delving, but then again, Sergio isn't Delvin.

Is he being serious and just wants 1 last payday? or giving Cotto false hope?

This is why I don't understand those who are predicting Martinez via easy KO. Martinez has been dealing with advancing age and nagging injuries for the last few years. His knee can be totally fine going into the match but blow out again at any time just like it did in his last fight.

I think a lot of guys are expecting the Martinez that fought Williams to show up on June 7th and, frankly, I'm not sure that guy even exists anymore.

hmm by the sounds of that the martinez that fought murray is as good as it's going to get. if that's the case cotto could well get the win. Of course he could be bull****ting or exaggerating.

If there is even a shred of truth to this though kiss good bye to any hope of a GGG fight.

Because I train 6 days a week for an average of 8 hours a day, I am always in constant pain. There are some days when I am so sore that I cannot even walk but I push myself because I know that I have to push myself to be the best fighter in the world.

Can't walk, but trains to be best fighter in the world? I don't know what to make of this. If a man can't even walk, why is he competing in such a physically demanding sport?

If this is true and he beats cotto, but gets beat up or looks bad, I would not be surprised to see roach and arum, push pac against martinez.
