I found that odd as well. Anyone putting that amount of hours in the gym is severely straining themselves. I think Sergio was either stretching the truth or overtrains tremendously, which would explain the soreness. Add in the repaired knees and operated shoulders and you get a recipe for disaster. Martinez is going to be a right mess on fight night, as my fellow Brits would say.

Hopefully for his sake he is exaggerating because even if he is a world class athlete human biology still applies to him. Training more does not mean better results, training the right way, proper nutrition, and adequate rest is what gives you better results.

I think a lot of guys are expecting the Martinez that fought Williams to show up on June 7th and, frankly, I'm not sure that guy even exists anymore.
Cotto is praying that it goes the way of the Foreman fight.

Being in so much pain that you can't walk is not so rare after hard work outs.

I remember my thighs being so tired that it took me a tremendous effort to just walk up stairs.

As for the 6h training , I assume it includes a big deal of physiotherapy, massages, stretching etc. (unless Sergio is lying/exaggerating of course)

Not true...jerry rice is known for legendary 8 hr off season workout routines. In fact I have mirrored them in the past. Your work and rest & food intake simply gets regimented heavily. You guys love talking bulli**** . this place has become worse than a barbershop. Bunch of fake know-it-alls.

Sergio is still champ. It is highly unlikely that Cotto moves up to Middleweight and beats Martinez. As for the constant pain: Anyone that has played any type of sport plays with or through some sort of pain. Either from constant pounding and reusing of the same muscles or just plain wear and tear on the body.

Sergio Martinez is a pro athlete he is going to have pain, it comes with the territory. I bet Cotto has pain as well. They are pushing their bodies to the limit in preparation for a fight. They aren't working out at Gold's gym trying to look good for the ladies.

And yes, I too don't think Sergio works out (hardcore) 6 days out of the week. It's physically impossible.

That though it's not the kind of training you have 2 weeks before a fight/ start of the season.

And it is not the kind of training the doc would suggest if you are almost 40 and coming off two serious knee injuries.

In my opinion Sergio is doing extra work to regain muscle mass on his thigh, and a lot of therapy to avoid inflamations.
